I have an 1992 4.3XL Merc I/O with an Alpha One outdrive. I have drained all of the water from the hoses that connect to the risers and water pump. My question...where is the block drain plug?

I read somewhere that all of the water can be drained from a 4.3 Merc with the removal of just one plug? Is that true?

Thanks...
XF

Theres a plug on each side the starbord is just ahead of the starter and the port is in about the same place on the other side, pull the hoses of the bottom of each exh manifold and one off the end of the power steering cooler

Don't forget the rest of the winterizing procedure.Getting the water out is most important, but running on stabilized fuel ranks up there also.

DHP

Re: Block Drain Plug - where is it?

Thanks for all of the help.

One more added one...do all power steering units have coolant running to them? Mine didn't appear to have a cooling hose running to anywhere near the power steering pump or the cylinder.

Thanks...
XF

Yes, the Merc's all had PS coolers. Just follow the hoses from the power steering pump to the cylinder on the transom shield, you will run into it.
