Block Water Flow & Water Cavity Pressure Testing

Rebuilding 1997 Yamaha 150HP 2 stroke S150TXRV powerhead.<br />( Click here to view updated blog with new pictures )<br /><br />Trying to understand where the water comes in to the block from the sea, and where the water exits back out of the block.<br /><br />I have about an inch tube that goes into a spring loaded poppet on the exhaust cover plate. Does this deliver or remove water?<br /><br />Is there any way once the block is assembled on the bench (heads, exhaust covers, etc), that I can pressure test the water cavity (compressed air and a guage) to check for leaky gaskets?<br /><br />Thanks in advance.

Water enters at the base of the block and exits out the exhaust. You'd have to take apart the parts you'd want to test for leakage to block the ports for any pressure test. Kinda defeats the purpose.

If you have the powerhead off the intermediate housing, you'll see where the water comes up and into the block. The pop-off valve discharges excess water pressure.

At what point does water mix with the exhaust? From what it appears, water could possibly mix with the exhaust at or below the base the powerhead because I do not see where water mixes with the exhaust within the powerhead itself.<br /><br />Kavika: Surprising isn't it. You running in saltwater like me?<br /><br />thanks.

Yes, but the boat is used, so I do not know history ... and stored in the water.<br /><br />I use Salt a way in the hose attachment and on the boat. Do not have to wipe down glass or iznglass...no spots.<br /><br />I only hope it does as well inside to remove the salt.
