For those of you who were curious, there was a difference in the 302 blocks. A 1/16 inch difference. Enough that I couldnt get the coupler aligned. I put a 1/16 inch washer under both rear mounts and whalaa! So D4DE-6015-BA is different than D4DE-6015-AA. Guess in a car it wouldnt matter. Thanks for your help on the matter. Gonna taker out and stir up the lake.

Doesn't surprise me at all, being a Ford. Thanks for the update, though!

Hey Toot,

I too, like Jkopec, am comtemplating a repower. Good to know. Mine is going to be down the road a ways, as I have about a billion things to do in front of that. Glad to see ya here, not too many Ford guys kicking around.

Are you saying that there's a 1/16th" Difference in the Crankshaft Centerline,+ the Bellhousing Flange of the Block,..???.................

I'm not so Sure that I'm buying That,.............

I'd Still sooner think that there's an Issue with the Rear Motor Mounts,..???...........

Re: Blocks were different

Correct. The rear mounts were not altered or touched in any way. The bell housing was not altered in any way. When trying to align the coupler, as I brought the front of the motor down, the end of the coupler came up. When I brought the front of the motor up, it brought the end of the coupler down and there the splined shaft went throught the gimbal bearing, it was hanging up. I put a 1/16 inch washer under both rear mounts and she slipped in perfectly. The block was different. I have no other explanation. It was a fender washer which went under the spring and fiber washer.

Re: Blocks were different

I'm with bondo and mkast.

That would mean the crank centerline was a sixteenth off. What a mess that would be in any application.

Did you put the dowels back in the new block?

Re: Blocks were different

Ya. I didnt actually measure it because I didnt have to pull the motor but I do know that the rear mounts on the transome plate were not altered in any way and the bell housing was installed correctly with the alignment studs in place. It took a 1/16 th washer under both rear mounts to get it aligned.

Toot,
Could be a bunch of reasons why you have to use the washers. Do you really think you have a "ONE KNOCKOFF BLOCK"?

Ayuh,.........

I see a Rotten Transom,....
Or,....
Collasped Rear Motor Mounts,......
Or,....
Missing Hardware,......
Or,....
SomeThing is Wrong,...........

When You're replacing the Coupler Again in 10 or so running hours,........
Maybe you'll Find the Real Issue Then...............
