This can't get any worse. I just took my boat to the shop to trace my "fuel problem" and they told me my #6 cylinder is dead and I need a new powerhead or motor. If I decide to keep this boat, what is my best option? I believe my available options are either a rebuild, new powerhead, or new motor. I can't afford any of these right now, so the most cost effective method would be best. Would rebuilding this ourselves be a bad idea? What do shops normally charge for rebuilds? Any ideas, experiences, or opinions would help. The motor is a 2000 150hp vmax hpdi.(vz150tlry)

Re: Blown cylinder what do I do?

depends on the competency level.
the mechaniacal reciprocating assy is the same as has been used for about 30 years on most two strokes.
the key is finding why this piston detonated, usually lift pumps, bad VST filter, clogged medium pressure filter, clogged high pressure pump internal filter or a clogged injector filter.
