I am wondering if anyone knows anything about Blue Star boats? I have an 18 foot aluminum/fiberglass composite. Alu. hull and the "deck" is all glass. Guestimated year is around 1958. It has the fins on the back like a '57 chevy. The only information I have is a tag on hte inside of the transom: Blue Star Miami, Oklahoma. I would like to learn more about it. Please email me- passrdcc@nmo.net I have pictures...<br />Thankyou!<br />Craig

Re: Blue Star

There have been literally thousands of boat builders that have come and gone over the years. I've discovered it's really hard to find info on all but the best known. I've been trying to find info on Peterborough and Shepherd, two makers from Canada that were in business for a long time. Outside of turning up a few for sale, I've hardly found anything else. :(

Coupe, not sure where to post this or if I can email you.<br /> Regarding Shepard boats the book<br />"The Real Runabouts" by Robert Speltz Has 6 pages <br />on Shepard boats Lots of pretty good info.<br /> You may be able to find it at the library or<br /> Buy it on ebay or amazon.com or barnes and noble<br /> There is a whole series on wood boats but they are pretty pricey

Thanks for the tip, Spike. It took me quite some time to find out that Shepherd's were built in Niagara on the lake.<br />It's not like with cars: Virtually everything ever made has a club or following. Easy to find info on almost anything, even cars that were never sold in North America, like a Goggomobile. :D

I've got a 1971 Duck Hawk manufactured in Houston, TX. It's the same way. There is absolutely zero info on this boat mfr.<br /><br />Jeff

Same frustrations with me. In 1973, my folks bought a new Excel 17-foot speedboat with a 65-horse Merc for their lake cabin. They had it for ten years, then sold it to my older brother, who traded it in a couple years later. All I can find (locally and from people's memories) is that they were Canadian-made and sold in Grand Forks, ND for only one year, two at the most. I've checked every web site I can think of, in addition to old newspapers of the time, and have come up with nothing.

Re: Blue Star

I think the big problem is that small boats could be made in someones garage. Or something like it. So somebody makes a few boats, then moves on to something else. Maybe you sell the molds to someone else who changes the name and makes a few more, and so forth.
