Boat Axle Problem

I have a 1999 Silverline trailer that I haul my 17 foot Key West boat. Yesterday, about 100 miles into a 220 mile trip (Isn't that the way it always happens), my right bearing seized and before I could stop, the tire actually came off the trailer. I had it towed to a local boat dealer and will have to see what the damage will be on Monday. Does anyone have any experience in repair of this type trailer. Looks like the spindle is spot welded to the axle. Should I just have the whole axle replaced? I am afraid the boat dealership will just try to sell me a new trailer. Thanks:

Re: Boat Axle Problem

hey I had the same problem last year on my way to the keys. I opted for the new axel ($189+tx) , but kept the old axel. I had the good spindle cut off & a backing plate welded on it It now sits on the trailer so I can have a spare tire & greased up spare hub with bearings.
