boat covers and the rain

I bought this cover earlier this year, it seems ok, easy to put on. Lately it has been raining alot in the evenings and good chances during the day. My boat will be wet on the inside(floor). I don't like the idea of the boat sitting there with wet floors and covered up. During the day it is hot, but since it is covered it doesn't dry out. What should I do, what do you guys do that can't put the boat in a garage? It doesn't take much to remove the water proofing off those types of covers. I'd had good success using the water proofing sprays available for your local boating store. <br />I gave up on ago and went to using the heavy duty plastic tarps to cover my boat. A fold here and tuck there and fits my boat quite well.

Wmart sells a waterproofing with an orange cap in the camping section that works like nothing I've ever tried before - even better than 303. It's really inexpensive too. Try that. - thanks to crazycharlie for the original tip.

i use a tarp over the cover that is set up so water vapor can vent out<br /><br />even if you have a leak free cover setting up good venting is inportant<br /><br />if you dont its really hard on the insides of the boat<br /><br /><br />on my cuddy i use a big toy store ball to keep the cover off the deck which allows the hatch to be open about and inch and the boat stays very dry<br /><br /><br />tommays

Really focus on the sewed seams. Also make sure it's installed TIGHT, with absolutely NO place for water to pool on the cover. Anywhere that pools WILL leak.<br /><br />Your concern is genuine. Nothing will reduce a boat to a moldy pile of mulch faster than outside storage with a slightly leaky cover that traps moisture. Dry your boat out COMPLETELY as soon as possible, and do whatever it takes to prevent it from getting wet again.<br /><br />If your home has a place and it's permitted where you live, I'd seriously consider a temporary carport. They usually look like big white tents with no sides. Not dirt cheap, but cheaper than building a garage. And it'll help save your boat from $1,000's of dollars in water damage.<br /><br />Good luck.

I lift the corner on the transom, and it rolls creating a gutter so the rain follows it to the swim deck, and over. I have a mooring cover over the 2 piece, so it is well protected.

Thankyou craze1 and Dave, that is exactly the kinda thing I am wanting. To lift the cover(to avoid the pooling) and allow some air flow. I really don't want to have to redo all of my flooring. I will order one of those and go to wally world and get some water proofer! Thanks again guys! I appreciate the ideas!

My last mooring cover manged to leak after water pooled in the bow. I placed a small ocillating fan in the boat under the cover and let it run till the boat dried out. Of coarse leaving the cover off in the sun works quicker but if you run into a week of off and on rain the fan keeps the air moving at least. I have since ordered the ventilating poles so I shouldn't have the pooling problem anymore!<br /><br />Jeff

If you search the net, you can find cover vents such as above, but with solar powered fans for reasonable prices. The fan helps circulate air under the cover.

I have a custom sharkskin cover for my Baja. I also have white interior and didn't want the build up of mildew due to a non breathing cover.<br /><br />I have the vent poles and they worked great last winter. NO mildew and no moisture under the cover so IMHO they let the cover breathe and allow the circulation of air. <br /><br />A little disconcerning to cut holes in my brand new cover....but it worked out fine.<br /><br />Got em from Iboats.com.
