I want to work on my boat this summer to try and rebuild the deck, Transom, Stringers etc.
Where would be a good place to dry dock it at a reasonable price.

That is a HUGE undertaking. A transom, stringers, deck and motor removal/re-installation can take a long time and that is when you have electrical power and tools on hand. If you are talking about the 1981 22' boat you own with a 470 motor you might want to re-look at it.......... it might not be worth it.

Your boat has fiberglass stringers .......... are they broken? Replacing them will be a monumental project.

Is the decking soft? What is wrong with the transom?

You would be better served repowering with a 3.0 liter or a 4.3 and get rid of the source of most of the problems.

I would look into renting a garage or paying someone to use their yard ......I doubt a marina would be too cooperative with a full rebuild.

Cheapest place is your own front/back yard IF you aren't dealing with some sort of tree hugging Home Owner's Association busy bodies. And if you are...does the boat fit in your garage? This will be the easiest of them as well as its only a quick walk to your basement/house/garage if you need a tool.

Next cheapest - got a buddy who is willing to lend you the space to work?

Boat yard is probably going to be the most expensive. And probably the most problematic when you forget a tool that you need.

Bob, Thanks for the info. Yes it is that boat that you are referring to. I might rent a parking space and just do the work myself. Its too expensive for me to have it repaired by a rebuilder. If i do attempt to rebuild the stringers, transom and deck, what kind of turnaround time am i looking at if i worked every weekend that i could get (i really dont have much experience with fiberglass except watching Friscoboater on youtube). I might be paying $150 a month for the space.

Were in NY are you located? My parents own a marina in Brooklyn , NY and we have enough space for a 40 footer but thats mainly for cars. If your boat is 22 feet then it should not be a problem. And price wise would not be as expensive as other places since its a private marina and they do work on boat there as well. Near by mechanics and fiberglass specialists ect. You stringers ARE fiberglass and you want to replace them????

I am not sure if they are fiberglass. If they aren't i will attempt a rebuild. If they are, do you suggest i re-glass them?
