This may or may not be the right place to post this, but it is an important reminder to all of us who work on our own boats, and even professional boat mechanics.

One can NEVER be too careful when working on a boat, ESPECIALLY around the fuel system!

Re: Boat Explosion

A great time to remind everyone to use there bilge blowers. thing like that remind us all that we are sitting on a bunch of TNT. Some one told me that a cup of gas has the explosive power of a full stick of TNT. So use your blowers and be careful out there. I recently removed the winter cover off my boat and the strong odor of gasoline was wafting through the air. I have no leaks anywhere, it is just being kept under wraps for so long.

It is a good reminder. I often forget how explosive these things are.

I saw a boat fire fist hand on Lake Oconee about 7 years ago. Bunch of teens early 20's in a 20' I/O. Filled it with gas and went to start without using Blower and boom! they all jumped into the lake and were not hurt. Boat drifted to a bridge where a local Fire Dept was able to put it out DNR pulled the boat to the bank. Total loss, boat basically melted.

Re: Boat Explosion

if you have a carb on your boat, you have a built in fuel leak. ALL carbs will have at least one very small spot where raw fuel is exposed to air on a constant basis, they don't seal themselves up when the throttle plate is closed.

EFI is slightly better, but you still can have a leak.
