well good thing there were plenty of boats out to help along with the USCG. It would seem this poor guy had a bilge fire. I am not sure of all the detail but I beleive no one was hurt even though there was ten people on board. One would think thats a little much for the boat size. They got lucky that no one was hurt.

Im more use to car fires and must say I guess for anything fire has to be the saddest way to see something consumed.

Too bad for the fellow and with all the water in the world a splash away.

That reminds me. I need to get a fuel system pressure check on the "MO Belle". I need to make sure the new sending unit is sealed well.

Boat fires are ugly and a little disruptive to a fun day on the lake.

There was just a update on this story in the local news, It seems that they had ran out of fuel and another boat of friends came to there aid and brought them fuel. After filling up they started the boat and took off and then heard a pop, looked back and saw the engine compartment was on fire......It also said that two of the people needed treatment for minors issues.

I would say this is the prime example of why you need to run your exhust fans after fuel up before to start the boat!.

Crappy way to spend the 4th ......I would say they prob need to change the pants after that one.

And I'm also reminded to check the blowers. I think they're disconnected from the outside vents right now.

That would be a good idea Daninja. I added an extra blower to mine during my rebuild, now i have one 3 inch and one 4 inch blower. That way I know the fumes are vented.

Things like marine starters, alternators, distributors, carburators, fuel pumps, (and the list goes on) being replaced with automotive parts (Because they are cheaper than marine) is usually the root cause in fires like that. Along with no maintenance or ever checking anything in the bilge until it doesn't work anymore.
