Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

My yard is littered with summer lake toys.
Sections of the 80' dock sit on the lawn, next to the double jetski lift. So sad.

I bought a snowmobile just for something to do in the winter.
I hate winter. I hate snow.
Now I find myself hypocritically wishing for snow.

I do feel for those that are forced to winterize. The river temp is a bit chilly at 73

As I debate weather to go hunting or do the snowblower today. Got 6” last night from no snow and several more inches on the way.

We are out in the country, 300' long drive two cars wide. Bought alk the needed stuff to remove snow, large snoblower, small blower, Side by Side with plow and heated cab. YES....toys to play with in miserable winter ! Haven't had any worthwhile snow since I bought all this stuff ! Go figure..

I had to saw up a branch that fell over the driveway in the snow storm, wife called me before I got my boots off about trees on the road to the county road. She was in a hurry had to bring her dad to Dr's appointments. I conjured up my days as a faller on wildland fire and ran a chainsaw like I was not held enough as a child, got the trees cleared quick. Roads suck wind is blowing all ice covered.

17” , plow plugged the driveway again. I don’t get mad at them but it sucks. Still have to get out to the hunting blind, probably take it down as where it’s at is more than likely a whole lot more snow and the deer are not going to come around that area anymore. If they have been there I might leave it up and hunt for the final three days, or road hunt. there isn’t a lot of hunters moving deer like it used to be up here.

I have to say I have a problem with road hunters. My dad and I were hunting in a tree line along a small lake. A doe and a buck ran out into the corn field between us and the road and a moron on the road sent bullets our way trying to shoot the deer between us. We saw what was happening so we took cover before the shooting started. Not my favorite experience. Very hard to not put a round or two into their engine compartment but not worth going to jail either.

These days I have to hunt public land when I go so I have switched to archery. Between the experience above and others, I have gotten to where I don’t want to be out during a rifle season.

I quit deer hunting on private land decades ago when I was looking at a buck and doe thru the scope and there was a hunter on the other side looking thru his scope at me

I never had that problem on private land (other than road hunters). I am fairly sure I was responsible for a very nice tree stand disappearing from the back of a property. I was supposed to be the only one hunting back there. The back gate was left open with 4-wheeler tracks. I shut and wired the gate. A week later the fence had been cut so I followed the tracks and told the owner what was going on. The game warden cornered me about the missing tree stand. I told him I didn’t know who took it but I had zero sympathy for the guy hunting there without permission. He sort of agreed with that and I never heard another word about it. Someone went out and started cutting 4-wheeler trails without permission then one of their kids had an accident. Other people started claiming they had a right to be back there when they didn’t so the owner padlocked the gates and posted no hunting and no trespassing signs (shouldn’t be needed but some people just aren’t smart enough to understand what private property is).

I couple of years later I was sitting in a buddy’s tree stand on a piece of ground he had leased. I am about 90% sure I was sitting in the missing tree stand. He was friends with the property owner above.

Here is another good one. A guy road hunting stopped and shot a deer in a field in plain view of the property owner’s house and they witnessed the deed. The owner asked the game warden to talk to the “hunter” about hunting on property without permission. While the game warden was talking to the hunter about staying off private property, the hunter starts getting irritated and says something to the effect of “I don’t know what they are upset about. I shot the deer from the road and only went on their property to pick it up”… true story.

I should have been more clear, if I do road hunt it’s in the national forest, no private property. And I never shoot from the road, that’s not legal. I look for signs of where deer cross and such, get out and lock up the vehicle and get out and slowly move the the forest. I’ve gotten deer that way, and if I see signes of other hunters in an area I leave them alone. There’s hundreds of miles of fire lanes out there.

I used to hunt some that way on a piece of BLM ground in AZ. They had a sign-in sheet at the gate but it was very unusual for anyone else to be out there. Harvested some good mule deer by parking and stalking. The main road in was maintained gravel but everything else was ranch trails.

Sitting and waiting was not a good option there. I think the last year I hunted it the success rate was 17% for that area. If we camped we just hiked out from camp looking for sign.
