This was an equipment fail. A launch fail is due to user error, and is usually a lot more entertaining.

i know, we provided very little entertainment to those at the ramp. More a curiosity factor backing down and then a few minutes later pulling back up the ramp.

hopefully, things will go better this coming weekend

Update:

Tomorrow is re-launch day . . .

After I got the boat fixed last weekend, I used the extra time to shine-up the boat.

My boat hauler called me to say that he didn't need the big trailer until we launch tomorrow afternoon, so he 'stuck' it under my boat for the time being. . . . OK . . . . :noidea:

When we got to the house, there was the trailer, under the boat. This trailer is like the mother of all trailers

I took a look at the capacity plate. . . The trailer itself weighs 6,600 lbs. Capacity is 20,000 lbs.

Anyway, hopefully that launch goes well and uneventful.

You sure you don’t need a bit more trailer under that boat?

Good luck with your launch!

I know . . . I wish there was a 'poor man's ' version of this sort of trailer without the hydraulics and heavy weight, as I would get a Ford F-150 with Ecoboost :) and launch and retrieve DIY style.

That's the thing with electrical parts. Either they work or they don't . There is no warning when they are about to go

Ideally.

I wish electrical was that simple. I have had plenty of them stop working and then 10 minutes later start working again and work for a while, then stop again.

Electrical gremlins frustrate me

Good job figuring it out Ted.

:)

Electrical stuff can be a nightmare. Hopefully, everything is all set for today. I loaded up a total of 120 gallons of fuel over the past couple of weeks and will give the engine a test run before the boat hauler shows up (6:30 ish) this evening.

The extra time has allowed me to clean and check things that I normally do not have time to do . . .

I do not like to use the word HATE lightly. But is very close as to how I feel about anything electrical. I have gotten shocks changing flashlight batteries. Something can work just fine, like today the Microwave wouldn't work, wife turns it on and it works. I try it again and guess what? It happens all the time. Electrician pal says it's something about my bodies conductivity whatever that is.

I hope all went well with the launch.

Hope the launch goes well, as far as electrical, especially DC I hate working with it, I had to change the front of a small digital camera that I have cause it got dropped and I found out in a hurry much those DC caps in the flash system hold, talk about getting bit, my finger was numb for 3 days!

Thanks, guys. I’m glad to be ‘in’ for season. On the boat right now, actually.

BTW - I asked my boat hauler how he managed without his trailer for the day. Told me he has 2 of them. I guess you would need 2 of those trailers if you were in the business. :noidea:

What does he use to tow those beasts?

BTW, I had my first outing of the season, and besides forgetting the pump for the towable, everything went well!

Glad you are in!

Wow, I'm surprised your hauler dunks his trailer at a ramp. My guy (as far as I know) doesn't wet his trailer.

Boat has to float off of the trailer. I'd day he gets the trailer about 1/2 way in the water. Not sure how he'd do it otherwise :noidea:

Mobile lift with lifting slings under the boat. Takes longer, and the trailer guy might have to share profits if he doesn't also own the lift.

Not a lot of mobile lifts in the area, and it would double the price of launching to about $20/foot  Only the big marinas have the travel lifts so most of the independent guys launch via the trailer.
