I have a 1978 Thompson See farer with Volvo 4 cylinder inboard/outboard. Under throttle, the boat leans to the right. It doesn't straighten up as at trims out. I have never own an inboard motor. is this a normal torque condition?

Re: boat leans

Could be but--- I never saw a Volvo come from the Thompson factory. No-- that is not normal and should be easy to fix. If it leans while stationary at the dock it is a weight distribution problem and something(s) need to be moved. If only under throttle the 1st thing to look at is the anode above the prop. Is it there? Is it positioned straight back (wrong if so)?

The previous owner installed some kind of plastic fin on the outdrive. An automatic trim? Would this be causing a problem if not installed correctly?

Best to take a couple of photos and post them. You might put a straight edge on the hull on each side and look for hook or other defect in hull.

Probably the infamous "Whale-Tail"...and yes, it could act as an aileron of sorts lifting one side more than the other if it's bent upwards or downwards. Marine manufacturers spend ALOT of money paying engineers to design outdrives, and then the average Joe ruins it with $40 worth of plastic.

Buy smart-tabs here at iboats smart tab - iboats if you want to improve the ride...they attatch to the hull, AND actually work!

That is "supposed" to get the bow down at lower speeds. Mostly NOT needed even on underpowered boats.
