Boat pulls to the right Really bad

I bought an old 1978 18.5ft aqua-sport with a 1974 105hp Chrysler motor (1057HF).I put it on the water and the boat started perfect and worked great until i went above wake speed, at that time it pulls to the right really hard, the faster I go the harder it pulls. Its to the point that if I let go of the wheel it will do a circle.I have already tried many different things, I have checked the anode and that is fine, I also have tried tightening the cable back by the transom area. What should i do to fix this problem?

you need to rotate the anode like a little rudder ..this will re align the thrust of the outboard and keep it straight ...move it to the right looking from rear to counter a right swing usually at about a 10 deg angle ...have you checked the bottom of the boat for cup ( hollow) on one side and a bulge on the other ..use a long 8ft length of timber

if he greases the cable it will be even worse as the engine will find it easier to turn the steering wheel ..its called torque steer ....its either trim tab out ..or bottom of boat bent.

The boat is perfect on the bottom and the anoide only can be adjusted an inch to each side at most because the style motor.the cable is free and the motor moves free side to side with out problem when it is not in gear. The scage is bent a lil. but not bad enough for it to pull that bad. I dont know what else to do or look at?

SO I figured it out, its all in the trim and what speed your going.

Higher the speed higher the motor lower the speed lower the motor.

i dont think thats the issue, but i would try the same test speed on calm water vs. rougher water. I may be wrong but my boat does the same in im headin out into the gulf of mexico. I believe it has to do with the current pull, waves, wind, etc.

So have you got the trim tab pointing the right way ? ..you say it goes hard right so looking from the rear you need the rear edge of the trim tab to the right ....try it about half way through its adjustment range to start with ,,,these tabs are very sensitive to exact position,.

Not usually. Most likely it is the result of any of several irregularities in the hull, the steering hook-up or the engine mounting. Steering wheel must be properly located relative to propeller rotation. If an engine has a right hand rotating propeller, steering wheel should be on the right or starboard side. This side normally would tend to lift as the result of torque action and the driver?s weight offsets it. Modern outboards have built-in features in the lower units to compensate for torque. Engine tilt should be such that the prop is horizontal when underway. If it is up or down, the propeller can have a definite pull to one side. See that the engine is at the exact center of the transom and is setting level. Steering linkage should have enough adequate sized pulleys, properly swiveled and with the right cable tension. Check boat bottom for warping, distortion, which could cause difficulty.

That's good info Furyman. The boating industry is a little behind the times when it comes to automated features. I know my little Merc 60 can provide enough data that when combined could be used to automatically trim the motor. Wouldn't that be sweet.

Got myself thinking on this. I have a mini-notebook in the boat and I have the data sources. I'd just have to write the code and setup the input to the trim switch. The trim sender tells me where it's at, the ECU tells me RPM's, GPS tells me speed and fuel flow sensor tells me how much fuel I'm using. Given enough variables it could probably be very tunable to the hull.

hi everybody if the scag is bent that can be the cause just like my 85 hp Johnson at low speed it pulls more then at high speed
