If they are in that big of a hurry tell them to be a little quicker and get there before you.
If they are in that big of a hurry ask them to give you a hand .

That'a a very good way to put it, Jim. If I were in their shoes, that's what I would do.

I feel lucky that I use a little known ramp that's never particularly crowded. And it's getting less so as it moves toward fall.

these are the same people that take 10 tries to get the trailer lined up straight when backing into the water.

HEY! I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK, lol! Fortunately I only have to take it in & out every couple of years (boathouse) and I'm not one to be critical or impatient with others.

It should't matter how and speed as long as its done in a safe manner without injuries to self or property.

I resemble it too, my boat is max trailerable size (a 24 footer but by the time you add the bracket, motor, tralier tongue, hitch, etc it's more like 30 feet) - backing it is a rotal pain and with the one time a year I launch it I'll be 187 years old before I get enough practice to be proficient.

Having said that, if there is someone behind me that looks like a quick one, I'll always give them the option to go first so I can do my 37 realignmants in peace (it's a lightly used ramp, but the roadway CURVES as it approaches the apron - thus making it even harder. There are also all manner of rocks and hazards if the boat doesn't go straight out. Nor is there anywhere to tie up, so it's push the boat off the rollers, run after it, jump on and hope you don't miss...

I love rural Maine.

Be surprised how many neighbor jerks that live in my private HOA sit there with their hands in there pockets while I load or unload any one of my boats. I ALWAYS lend a hand, and the ones that sit and watch and wait for me get a little extra time, because I will REALLY make sure I take MY SWEET TIME! GD losers are EVERYWHERE

This is the first time I hear of such nonsense. What's the diff if you winch it part of the way up? I do this too. Sounds like it's more of an issue of fisherman and weekender conflict.

I too help out if I see someone is alone, inexperienced, or in need. I have been helped as well whenever I was alone.

The only people that irritate me are those that are at the ramp and spend all kinds of time tying down their boat after they have put it on the trailer and sorting their gear when clearly they could do this higher up off the ramp.

...Or there was the time I was approching a public dock from an afternoon out and had a group of "younger adults" who use the dock as "their" dock to hang around and sun bath. You practically have to trip over them to get out of your boat to get to the car!

At one of the ramps I use there have been from time to time:

Swarms of fishermen lining the ramp docks, fishing in the ramp, blocking the ramps, etc.
OR
Hordes of idiot kids using the ramp docks as diving platforms.

Both groups think they are entitled to exclusive use of the area, and give my nasty looks and comments .... I back right in as if they weren't there.

Run over a few of them and the rest will stay clear.

Re: Boat ramp protocol query....

I sort of know your problem. Here where I am once in a while you see a lot of this. Our ramps are wide enough that if I crowd to one side we can load 3 wide. I make sure I am at the edge of the ramp to allow this. I will never power load my boats, I just don't like to do it. I did try it once in a bad storm, and replaced the prop from it. A wave hit as I was opening the throttle, when the wave ran out the boat bottomed out. At the angle I was the prop found the ramp. I alwasy load and unload by hand.
Unloading is easiest. I tie a rope to the dock close by, release all ties, back into the water and hit the brakes. The boat launches and I drive to park the truck. Then I come reel in my boat and I am off.
