Re: Boat repowering

Well I just mean I want to be able to go some where and not have to put a few hundred in the tank for only a few hours.

P.S. I already sail

the difference between a carbureted boat and a fuel injected boat is the aprox difference between 2.5 and 2.55 miles per gallon.

Re: Boat repowering

What kind of budget for the powertrain? Used? New? To me a 4.3 MPI and an Alpha would be fine if you are only looking for high 30's or low 40's in speed. With that flat bottom I think she will plane easily. With the small size of the existing hole in the transom it looks like there is plenty of meat to expand out to the Alpha/Bravo/Volvo cutout, so any drive would workout. Of course Bravo 3 and Volvo duoprop drives would be optimum, so that's why I ask the budget question. Seems like that is the starting point. Unless you are ready to shell out almost $10k then you are looking at used equipment. Maybe an SEI drive and a rebuilt motor could come in as low as $5k.

I am not one to say forget it and buy something else complete. If you want that hull, then that's where the discussion starts. You are the only one who can make that call.

I figure if the outdrive gave me trouble maybe I could adapt jut the outdrive for a newer model from the 80's or 90's. I'd probably buy a dead boat with the parts I want.
