Re: Boat Sank

I bought a 1987 165 RX Glassport that I have left in the water for two months. It has run progressively worse. 2.3 OMC Cobra. Any thought other than sell it?

Also, I have a tear in my exhaust bellows, it doesn't leak why would a boat sink uless it lost its drain plug? Should I be worried about my boat sinking?

Re: Boat Sank

Too Big, There are a few reasons that can make a boat sink. If your exhaust bellow is bad, the u-joint or drive bellow may not be far behind...that can do it. Something as small as a shift bellow can sink a boat if your battery is low or your bilge pump doesn't work. A bad transom seal can also do it, as well as ANY thru hull fitting close to or below the water line. If a boat sits in the water, keep it well maintained, and check on it often.

Re: Boat Sank

I have a 1987 Citation 190XLS. It seems to be taking in water. This is the first I/O I have owned, so I may just be paranoid, but I can be cruising down the river at cruise speed and when I pull somewhere and tie off, I can kick on the bilge and there seems to be alot of water coming out. Any suggestions?

WV,
Suggestions: get a repair manual, change driveshaft bellows, change shift bellows, calk between the transom and transom mount, tighten the mounting bolts for the transom mount, check all fittings and hardware below the waterline, check hull for cracks and holes, also check engine while running and see if cooling system is leaking.

Thanks gspig. I'll look into that. The hull has no cracks and the cooling system is all new with no leaks. So it may be the bellows.

Re: Boat Sank

Well...I was wrong. Yesterday I winterized my boat and found out that I was missing a drain plug on the exhaust manifold on the port side. Also, the plug on the starboard riser is all stripped, I am going to have to get it off with some vice grips, a wrench won't do it. Can I pick new ones up fairly easy?

I have a 1984 Citation and have need of more information regarding it, could you let me know if yours has the gas tank in the floor or above deck?

You Really Should start your Own Thread in the Boat section,....
Rather than Hy-Jacking this 6 month Old thread that doesn't even deal with the Issues that You've got Going on.........
