I have a jon boat that has bench seats. the bench's are very thin. if i drill into them with regular screws i believe they wont hold the seats for a long period of time. i bought two plastic seats that fold in half they have a swivel built into them that has four holes. my question is how should i mount these seats on the benches so they will last?
thanks for the help

Use some backer boards under the bench seats.

Re: Boat Seat help me

do you want them to be removeable or permanent?
if removeable we just used two sets of battery tiedowns, some angle iron or flat stock, 4 eyebolts and a piece of wood. mount the seat on a piece of wood. screw in 4 eye bolts so that the seat with the wood sits on the bench with the eye bolts on the sides of the bench. drill 2 holes in each piece of angle or stock, take hook end of battery tie downs and hook on eyebolts. place threaded end of tie down through hole in angle or stock. use wing nut to tighten angle under the bench thus holding down the seat. repeat for all four eye bolts.

Re: Boat Seat help me

use them to attach mounting board, i have always use 3/4 inch exterior plywood with 3 coats of oil base paint. this give you room under the seat to get it's mount bolt in.

or you can use like 10 screws to mount like this. but makes the seat harder to bolt on.

Re: Boat Seat help me

thanks for the help. the benches are solid and if i wanted to get underneath them i would have to cut a hold through one side. if i had my pick i would want them to be removeable but it doesn't really matter.

Re: Boat Seat help me

They make clamps that grip the sides of the bench seats. That's what I use on my 14' Lowe. The seat swivels bolt to the seat clamps. The seat clamps straddle the bench and are tightened down using wing nuts. This way, you can easily move them around when the need arises or remove them for storage. No need to drill anything or provide additional backing. Here's an example of one that does not include the swivel, since you already have those- http://www.iboats.com/Boat_Seat_Cla...5451467--**********.799600635--view_id.375798
