I just purchased my second bass boat and am about to sell my previous one. As for my question. What can I do in terms of getting more speed out of my boat. I figure that your answer is going to deal with props, becuase I think that the jackplate is giving me all that its gonna be able to. Also, two other side questions, is shooting a big roostertail bad, and will a stabilizer or whale-tail help my hole shot. It is not a long hole shot, but not a quick one either. In terms of the roostertail, mine is not overly huge, but definately present. Boat specifications are:

Boat: 1992 Ranger 391V Comanche
Motor: 1992 Yamaha Pro V 200
Prop: Predator - 4 Blades - 25 pitch
RPM @ WOT - 5300
Speed at WOT - 57.5
10" Jackplate
Propshaft is 3.5" below pad
Water guage psi - 14-17#

Load is a tank and a half of fuel and regular fishing gear for one person.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I have been doing a lot of reading trying to understand better the basics of what makes boats click. I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Boat Setup

You will get the best response and most useful information on the "Boats" or "Props" forums. Walleyhed or Dhadley will be by to provide the info you need. In my experience, stern heavy boats benefit tremendously from Smart Tabs (self adjusting trim tabs). Whale Tails don't belong on a high performance boat. Go to Nauticus.com and read about Smart Tabs. No -- I don't work for them. I'm a very satisfied user of their product however. Before you post on the other forums, you should check where the AV plate (the plate just above the prop) is in relation to the keel. Prop shaft location is meaningless in setup. AV plate location is key. It will usually end up a couple of inches higher than the keel. The key to performance is engine height adjustment to achieve best performance without loss of water pressure. Then and only then should you begin playing with props. It may turn out what you have is the best. That's where the prop guru's have the best info.
