Re: Boat Snack Ideas?

We like chicken tenders. They are just as good cold or hot. Wife likes the pita chips and hummus (sp?). She also makes a greek pasta salad. Pringles instead of bag chips. Cheeze-its, triscuits, wheat thins and other crackers. Mixed nuts or trail mix. We'll throw some yogurts and jellos in cooler with drinks. Kids love Doritos but I'm not crazy about the cheesey smears they can leave on boat (everybody knows to be extra careful and wash hands off over side of boat). Another favorite is ham&cheese rolls (instead of sandwiches since bread would get smushed or soggy anyway). When daughter was in Girl Scouts we always froze some GS cookies to use for boat snacks during summer.

And don't let anyone bring sunflower seeds on your boat, I did once. Especially if they are beer drinkers.
Everything goes good on a ritz and compliments Jerky. Don't forget the V8 and OJ.

never take a banana on a boat if you are fishing. It is a major rule based on superstition and can get you thrown overboard. Some guys even stash them on a competitor's boat in a tournament.
Popcorn, however, can attract a flock of "working birds" and decoy your competition away from the real fish.
My standard back-up ration is the orange cheese nabs.
Since I usually fish I don't like something I have to handle a lot.
The Stacey's chips are a great find, too, and are a staple on our boat. Both them and the nabs are good for settling any queasy stomachs that may be on board.

I've got a fishing buddy who freaks out about bananas...even banana boat sunscreen. He says the story has something to do with banana spiders that would stow away on boats transporting bananas. They are evidently pretty nasty and can kill a man. Sailors would find a crew member dead from the bite, hence the superstition. Don't know if its true but that's what he says. Then again he is also afraid of snakes. I gotta say, watching a 6'-4" 380 pound guy scream like a little girl and run from a 2' black snake is pretty amusing...off topic, but amusing:p

Cans of sardines and oysters! We keep them stowed and always have Ritz and Saltines on hand.

Great for an afternoon or midnight snack! :D
Or, in a pinch, great for bait!:p

The thing with bananas is the potasium, they use it at fish farms to keep game fish away from the nets and fish. At least that is what I have been told by pro fishermen.

I went out on a charter and they would not allow bananas on board, even told one guy that if he did not get rid of it or leave it on shore that he could not go on the trip. Would not even let him board the boat with it.

Re: Boat Snack Ideas?

it's not really a snack, but i always take a subway sub with me when i'm going out for a day of boating. keeps well in a cooler. and some mt dew.

one time i was out on a pontoon with some guys who brought everything needed to make deli meat sandwiches. loaf of bread, lettuce, etc. pretty funny.

on a side note i also watched a man on a 45 minute flight do the same thing. who brings a loaf of bread in their carry on?

I take Pringles. The container it comes in prevents them from getting crushed!

Ha ha my wife brought home those pita chips. None of us liked them. We generally bring fruit, sandwiches, water and maybe some pringles or cookies and possibly a soda or two. Something about the boat makes the kids instantly want to eat and to continue eating. I find it's a race to get some food before it is gone. We put it all into a soft side cooler since we don't use any of the built in's. Our boating ended over a month ago already.

We took sunflower seeds once too. Three years later we were still finding hull that somehow managed not to make it into the lake! Pistachios on the other hand do pretty good. Its fun to try and make the empty hulls float like little boats :)

We like chicken tenders.

That's what I take. Pre cooked in the frozen section of the grocery store. I throw them in the cooler and by mid day they're thawed out and ready to go.
