My boat is taking water from somewhere in the back corner (aft, port). It happens when I make hard left hand turns. When I make these left turns my boat feels like it wants to roll instead of turn and takes water from somewhere above the water line. My rub rail is very old, is there a seam under there that could let water through? I have a 1998 Larson Flyer 16 feet. it is a fiberglass bowrider. It has an outboard engine on her. the hull is totally fine and gleaming...I smacked a wooden dock edge real hard without a fender down, if there were a seam underneath, I could easily see it being broken loose from said impact. I am going to get working on this bad boy tomorrow and was just looking for some words of wisdom or voices of experience.

ps. water just started showing this outting, last outting i wacked the side that the water is coming from. I would be glad to supply any additional information. thanks FF!

Do you have access to the "Bumped" area from the inside? If so take some pics of it and the outside so we can see what you see.

the top is screwed to the bottom under the rub rail so if you smacked it hard theres a chance one or a few of the screws got pulled then they jammed and cause a gap. Take a close look and like wooden said see if you can look from the inside. If the screws are jammed its a easy fix so dont panic (been there done that)

Can you describe in more detail what you mean by taking on water. So you mean water is visibly pouring into the boat when you make this turn? Photos or.a Youtube video would help.

The Rolling Vs. Turning has be baffled .. I dont think a loose hull/deck joint or even a blown through hull hose should be having such a drastic effect on the performance of the boat while under way. I mean you would have to have some kind of Scoop affect going on with your hull deck joint.

Pics a must :)

Re: boat taking water from above water line.

If I got water into the stringers would it not drain into the bilge? could it pool in the corner of the boat?

I pulled the rub rail and indeed the cap was pushed away from the hull. I can see where she would be taking the water. I will get new silicone or epoxy to seal the joint and then run new screws through to tighten it up. like a tool, I let my gopro battery die so I have no video for you but I will fix that tomorrow.

thanks for all the help!

its better if there is a large gap thats being held open to remove a section of rub rail then back the screws out then put them back in to close the gap rather than trying to use more screws to pull the gap shut

rub rail is totally off I have removed all the screws securing the top shell to the bottom hull. I am going to fill all the screw holes and re secure then install a new rub rail. that is my plan with the rail. I am still wondering if the stringers drain to the bilge!!?

Nobody can say for sure without proper inspection ..

I still dont see why the boat would alter its normal running from port to starboard without some serious affection going on there ..

You should be able to tell under way in this case.
