I have a 1997 Moomba Boomerang with a 265hp 5.7l boat weighs 1950lbs revs easily to 4800rpm checked the speed with gps last time out im hitting 44.2 mph at about 4600 rpm. I know the boat is made for towing and probally is pitched for towing but it is considered very light for a ski boat and the hull is very low and sleek. I was hoping for at least 48. I only ski/ wakeboard half the time, the other half i like to hot rod around the lake lol. Do they make higher pitched bronze props for inboard ski boats if people felt the need for speed lol?

Yes they do. I can tell by the V-drive in your avatar that you might know a little bit about props. I just talked to a buddy of mine on Wednesday who just repropped his Ski Natique. I'll call him later and ask him where he got his from.

Look at all of the test data, all over the place. You can add as much horsepower as you want to a tournament boat and they rarely exceed 45, and never reach 50. Just the way it is ;)

The speed is limited on the ski boats because of not being able to trim them out, they end up plowing through the water with a lot of wetted surface friction, they do well for what they were designed but speed is not one of them.

You can reprop to get a higher top speed, but with a tournament ski boat hull its going to be a scary ride especially if you hit any chop. They design those boats to go 36 MPH

You hull is made to make a nice wake it's not to go fast. Most inboard ski hulls do not have lifting stakes, so there is a ton of hull in the water at speed. Adding a cup to your propellers tip will give you some bow lift and a few extra MPH. It is a common practice in the vintage wooden boat world with old school hull design.

Here is a good example of what a tip cup can do to bow lift:

Call Vince and Discount Inboard Marine......803-345-0996. He probably has some experience with your exact setup.....they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee on props. Vince has years of experience with tournament ski boats and he's still barefooting in his fifties. He'll be able to tell you if you can squeeze more out of it.

Ayuh,... In that case,...
1/2 the time, you've got the Wrong boat....

Ya can ski behind a "Go-Fast" boat, 'n Go Fast when not skiing,....
But, you can't Go Fast in a hull built for Skiing...

Which is why I went with an I/O with a big block. As others have said, you can get a bit more speed, but it could create other issues. Not to mention the ride might get even more harsh than it is.

Yup! I hate I/Os, I think they are engineering abortions, but they make for a very flexible, fun, attractive, comfortable family boat that can do a lot of things well. Tournament boats are for . . . uhhhh . . . tournaments . . .

Oh they've had their abortions . . . Just check out a 3176 with the Aluminum "Spacer deck". The stupid thing had an iron crankcase, an aluminum "cylinder block" that contained the liners, and an iron head . . . Lasted about 5 years before they gave up, casted a proper block and Voila, the C10, C12 and then C11 and C13. EVERYBODY knew it was stupid, but they went to production. Sorry for the hijack, but I will say it made our shop a LOT of money :)

The boat only goes 44, but 0-44 is really fun. I enjoy this boat alot more than my two previous boats both 3.0 i/o had about the same top speed but not the brutal acceleration like this boat and watersports are much easier to keep a good constant speed. I never thought about the trim issue that explains the speed thing. + the boat in my avatar is the jet boat from the "great outdoors" movie lol
