Every major insurance carrier in the country either provides marine insurance or has a subsidiary that does. Talk to any local insurance broker.

Re: boating insurance

torcano, my wife is an insurance agent and we have our boat insured through progressive. her advice is simply this, good coverage only costs nickles and dimes for our $$$ investment in our boat.

And if you complete(d) a boating skills and safety course (state DNR, Power Squardron or Coast Guard Auxillary), you should get a certificate good for a 10% discount on said insurance. :D

Beyond the basics

The fine print on sinking AND fuel spills are the most inportant items and also the most used  as well as passanger medical coverage which tends to be pretty meager

Re: boating insurance

We use Geico for the cars AND the boat. We got a large discount for this coverage. I apologize, I cannot recall the name of the company (it is under Geico but has it's own name) but if you call Geico, they can help you. See if you can swing to get the cars over there too. We saved a good $500 overall. Excellent coverage too!

EDIT: Ski Safe is the name of that part of Geico. $335 for the year including trailering coverage and weather related damages.

Re: boating insurance

I use Progressive. So far no problem with them. I boat went through Hurricane Rita and I called the insurance and reported the claim and within 48 hours the adjuster came and came to check out the damages and promptly calculated the damages and told me to take the boat to dealer and have them check it out and repair/replace what needs to be repair/replace. Didn't cost me anything except my deductable. They were pretty good at settling my claim.

Re: boating insurance

I have already understood that the cost to insure the boat would not be expensive ( especially compared to slip and winter storage fees) and I was looking for the name company with a good reputation. I've reached out to the CharterLakes broker to see what they come with. I can deal directly with Progressive and may do so based on the previous comment by beezee 28. I have 3 weeks to go before the sea trial and ownership a few days later. Thanks for all of your help

I use progressive also. I think I carry a deductible of $1k - boat is insured for "agreed value" of 19k. I want to say $100k in liability off the top of my head.
$300ish a year. 385hp boat.

Re: boating insurance

As an Agent in Wisconsin. There are a few thing info wise that would help to sugest a company. Year, Size value, hp, and where you live. There are companies that are geared toward larger boats and some that can only go up to 26ft in length. Also be very cautious if you live on the coast or boarders. Some companies will exclude if you are traveling alot out into the ocean and accross the boarder.

I know alot of people prefer that they have an agent that is local and not just a 1-800 number. the only thime you find out youll have problems is when it comes to claim time.....
