Re: Boating My Cure for PTSD

Thank you for your service, HJ...

Nice score on your new to you boat...

May your future include many happy boating hours...

For any of the electrical gremlins that you have a problem with...post up questions in the electrical forum...those guys know their stuff and will be glad to help out...

Over in the restoration forum, you'll find a bunch of guys who have started doing their own upholstery work...you could check em out, and maybe try it for yourself...from what I have seen, they can do some premium upholstery work for the price of cheap imported stuff...

Here's a couple of links...

and I think jitterbug gave you this one already...but I wanted to add that he started making a living from a hobby...pretty cool...

Great looking boat, glad you have found something that helps you feel better. Boating and the attendant tinkering is great therapy for anyone!

Went out for a ride today. Took the GPS to compare to the onboard speedometer. I was able to get the boat onboard speedometer over 50mph and it was confirmed with the GPS at 52MPH.

wife took lots of pictures.

I beleive I see a big grin in one of the pics? and know there's probably a smile inside too if ones on your face . That's a sweet lookin boat you got there. Thanks for your service/sacrifice and doing what many, me included never did HJ. I think you'll find boating/tinkering w them and the tranquility of the river very helpfull w your ptsd. I always forget my minor stresses and problems when i'm out enjoying my boat, the scenery and sometimes catchin some fish  I'm no expert but it looks like the motor needs to be trimmed down alittle in the pics??

Ohh yes the trim was way off there. I did it for a cool pic op. lol. I am going to order the vinyl for the seats this week. I went to the local recycling center and managed to get some foam from some couch coushins. Should I wrap it in a plastic material when I do them.

I will only venture and do the flat seats and the sides and not the captains chair.

Re: Boating My Cure for PTSD

Wrapping the cushions in plastic first does 2 things:

1) it allows the foam to slid into the cover. Foam doesn't loke to move against the backside of vinyl without something stopping the friction.
2) it keeps the water that gets into the cushion from absorbing into the foam.

If you need any direction on your interior work, post your questions. I'm an upholsterer and will help out any way I can.

Re: Boating My Cure for PTSD

Looks like I might be out of boating. Looked at the motor while it was running and found water jetting from the bottom spark plug. It is a 115 Mercury 1987.

i assume the block is cracked and I dont have enough funds or the capability to repair it. Gonna park it out back and it will most likely not be used for a long long time.

I will still keep around the forums because I like to learn and I can be up to date when I do get it repaired one day. Thanks for all of the help and I hope you all have safe and enjoyable boating.
