Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Well,

If EZ is still coming down, we will be leaving North East @ 10:30 so we will be down to Llyods just after 11.

Yes, there is a narrow entrance to to Llyods next to a big cliff. Stay tight against the cliff on port side and you will be fine.

If you would rather, we can meet you at Rogues around 11 and the 3 of us can travel to Llyods together if you feel more comfortable following someone in the first time.

I am sending you a PM with my # as I don't have a FMS radio with me, just a VHF.

If anyone else is in the area, hail us as Nauti Fun on 16.

Anyone up for tomorrow. My drive is good to go. We flushed it with ATF and it is draining now. First thing in the AM I am filling it up with drive oil and going boating.
Supposed to be beautiful!

I finally got my drive installed and working correctly today, about 1:30pm so it's a day late for today's raft-up. I did take it out on the upper Delaware river to make sure it's OK. Ran about 90 minutes with no issues.

I'm up for a fall foliage tour in November if anyone's brave (and warm) enough. I built a door to close off my bowrider section and block wind.

We finally had a chance to meet some of you yesterday. But..... When we got to Rogues I back into the water and jumped in to start the motor (as always before rolling off) and I got nothing... Just cranked and cranked. I messed around for a good half hour (back at the parking area) before giving up :(

Everything was fine last week in the barrel, preparing for yesterday. I'm going to start with the key switch and work my way back. Needs a new wiring harness anyway. I have a magneto ignition and it is acting like a shorted kill switch.

ANyway, better stranded up at the ramp than 2 miles out into the open bay . We still ate lunch with a nice view of the Elk River, watching others launch and retrieve.

If I'm lucky We'll be ready to fall tour!

Thanks Brandon for offering to meet us at Rouges, maybe next trip!

We weren't able to make it out Saturday, but we did go out Sunday. Ran from the upper Elk down to the Sassafras and back. Last few miles we just putt-putted along at about 5mph. Once we had the wind at our backs it was great. The Admiral stretched out on the lounge seat and was snoozing in about five minutes.

Went by this big sucker coming out of the C&D on the way back.

The wind made it tough getting the boat back on the trailer. It took about five approaches before I got it lined up right...kinda. Man those bunk slides make a world of difference.

I wish I knew you were out Wingnutt, we would have come around and met you.

We passed one of those auto carriers last year, looks like a sister ship.
I thought it was the same one for a minute.

Scott - Sorry that we missed you guys this past weekend!! My sister got married on Sunday so we weren't able to make it out.

Jeremy - Good to see you guys on Saturday. Hope that you enjoyed the beautiful day we had on the upper bay. If you look back through this thread, you will find pics and links of printable charts of different areas in case you don't want to buy a book. ;)

Scott & Dot - Sorry that you had trouble with the engine on Saturday. Hopefully we can all get-together for one last cruise in November!

Anyone up for this Sunday, the forecast is for temps in the 60's but sunny! I'm not ready to wrap it up yet. The leaves are changing!

My next chance to get on the Chesapeake is November 7. It'll probably be too cold for my open bow boat by then. :(

I probably won't make it down to the bay anymore this year. I had to winterize the boat last weekend. After the temp over night was 28 degrees.

We had a great time. Thanks so much for showing us around. It got a little interesting at the marina when we went to pull out as there was a bass tournament coming in. I was like 5th in line to use the ramp. But the guy there runs a tight ship and we weren't held up long. I told him it was the best $10 I'd spent in boating :)

If that was Anchor Marine up in Northeast, I agree they are very good about their ramp etiquette and definitely enforce it. Never had a problem launching or retrieving there. They even give you a ride back from parking your truck if they are around in the golf cart.

We might go out Sunday...depends on the temps and the wind since the Admiral is cold blooded. :p I would like to get out at least one more time.

Yep, I've been given a ride in the golf cart before.

We'll be out too on Sunday, but they are talking of upgrading the small craft advisory to a gale warning for tomorrow!

If any of you folks are thinking of a fall colors cruise, I recommend the 31st.

That sounds interesting, the idea also perked the Admiral's ears up.

I know I am not done for the season yet. I may not get down there again this month, but I will be down the first weekend of November if I actually have anything to say about it.

Alright on another note; who's gonna be the number 2000 post?
