Serenity,

I think that the "trigger" is just forward of the dorsal fin, and that the fish can actually jam itself into a crevice, put up the "trigger" and lock itself in. Anyone more familiar with this fish, please correct me if I'm full of BS.... I mean soymilk....;-)

wonder what Jesus would say/do about genetically modified soy...? that stuff, all sprayed up with chemicals and god-knows-what, is not "clean".

Whow scrapper. Penn and Teller laying it out there. But your children will continue to recieve the hate literature because heck, they are going to see it anyways, and our higher education will support liberal fringe groups in principal and financially.

Man I hate peta folks. And where does that teacher get off telling your son that crap? My hats off to ya for taking him fishing. And for taking him shooting. OH NO! Next he is going to tell the teacher that he has shot an animal! Imagine what she will say then?

There is nothing more priceless then spending a great day on the water with your son and catching a cooler of fish to boot! What kids learn in school with books in a classroom setting is one thing. When the teacher starts criticizing what I do what my family at home you have stepped over the line. You are giving your son a gift that will last a lifetime. :) I only love boats, fishing and crabbing because of my father's dedication to teach me these things as a child. My hat is off to you sir for giving your son such a wonderful experience in life. I would tell the school and the hate mail people to go to 'ell!

Wonder how peta members taste with a lil bbq sauce?
Probably take a lot to clean them, you know they're against soaps and deodorant too. Might be good meat though, like corn-fed midwestern cattle. Got the same brainpower anyway.

Woodrat covered the "trigger" correctly. It's big, stiff, and sharp. Not fun for the fingers. Here's a pic that shows one, just above and rear of the eye. It's worse than it looks.

Some good advice and thoughts here. I think I'll just go with the educational and non-confrontational route. When we catch fish I'll explain why each step is done. For example we alway put them in a cooler, knowing that ice will stop their metabolism and kill them humanely. And of course, send more pics to school with him, so the other kids can see what fun it is.

I hunted with a American Indian friend of mine one time and we had to build a fire and toss in some wild tobacco as an offering of thanks after taking a deer.It was very touching. Now every time I kill an animal I say a little prayer.
