Wow, I find this amazing. Here in Auckland it doesn't snow so we get to go boating any time of the year, having said this we do have mountains to play in the snow on.
I always thought you lucky folk who have cold snowy winters were the lucky ones because of all the winter things you get to do. I for one are jelous and would love to experience a cold icy winter.
Perhaps we're spoiled as there are plenty of places on mainland America that don't freeze up but it seems you have the best of both worlds. I read here about winter sports, ice fishing, skating, etc then in summer you all come out to play. Lucky buggers!
Ross

Ross J,

For all of us who, as you would say, live in a cold climate during winter, I think that we all would gladly trade spaces with you.

I would love to be able to swim, waterski, fish, or in general, be able to boat year round, but I hate Florida and California, except to visit, and Hawaii is just too expensive, so I'm stuck here in frigid New York, with 30 MPH winds and 23 degrees (F) blowing down the canyons of the "Big Apple"!

But, I would not trade NY for almost anywhere else during the summer!

There is just so much to do and see here in the summer, there just isn't enough summer to do everything!

Oh well, guess we all complain about where we live because we live there, and there isn't much else we can do about it.

Kenny, you forgot the "Best Coast". After spending 30 years in upstate NY I finally got the hell out and never regretted it.

Yeah Mr. LF,

But you just can't make the kind of money that you can make in NYC, anywhere else, except maybe LA, but who in their right mind would want to live there??

Maybe when I retire, I've always have loved the southwest U.S.

I dug the Dory out today things are looking up. Now if we could get rid of the freezing rain in the Valley. Hey,Ice fishing is cold. Dont get me wrong I love living here. I just want to go play with the Boats. I'll be going Sturgeon Fishing here in a couple weeks. Not sure if I will take the Striper " Susan Marie III" or the Dory "Susan Marie II" I lived in Hawaii for 2 years 1999 to 2001 it was a lot of fun. I built a 24ft Pacfic Dory "Susan Marie" when I was there and made 115 trips. Caught alot of fish too.It was great to be out in the Ocean in Shorts, no shoes or shirt in January! Run over to Maui for dinner, Anchor up inside Black Rock, or snag a mooring ball outside the Lahina Harbor to spend the night. I am Happy to be back in Oregon again though. Hawaii was great. Love the sound of the drag when the Big Game hits. But Good Ole Oregon is greater! I have never been to Auckland. Im not even sure where it is.
Best, Peter

Re: Boats Snowed in!

I don't know, after getting through our -15 bout earlier in the week, and now battling snow again, I question my wisdom, but my area is too cool to live in. As for making money, this isn't the highest paying area for sure, but as I sit in my 3 bedroom 2 bath with garage on the water with my own dock, all that New York money and paying 4 digit lease payments for a crappy 600 square foot apartment and dealing with crime doesn't impress me that much. Its not how much money you make, its cost of living that should determine where a person lives. Whats the point of making $3000 a month if it all goes to rent or mortgage? No thanks, I'll take my little podunk Idaho town...

at $3,000 a month, you'd be homeless in NYC Jason.
my mom is selling her house in Anahiem, CA and she
is listing it for $399K
small 3 bedroom ranch, no yard, cruddy area....
I am lucky and have my own biz and work outa my
house, so I can make money anywhere. It sure goes
a lot farther here in the boonies though!
the cold and snow just makes us appreciate them
warm summer days all the more.

JasonJ,

Are you always this negative?

Every time you post, you never have anything positive to say.

You bash everyones posts with negativity.

You obviously know nothing about NY, except what you must be reading in your libral news publications.

Yeah, maybe it does cost $3000 per month here, but for that price, you'd be living in a penthouse suite with all the fixings.

And yeah, you can keep struggling through life making a senseless salary of $25,000/yr., but I would rather make $350,000/yr. and not have to worry about my future!

Don't knock the things, that you obviously haven't got a clue about!

Grow-up!

We're all suppose to be adults here!

Hi MY,

I'm not stressed at all.

I just hate negativity, and that is all that guy ever posts.

Haven't yet seen him post anything positive.

Sorry, but that is not necessary here.

I thought we were suppose to be having fun here!

Negativity is not fun, it's derogatory!!

Just checked out that snow cam. Now I'm having flashbacks. Not far from that place is Nick's Lake. We used to go there to barbque steaks and drink wine in the middle of winter. Don't remember why, must have inhaled too much smoke from the campfire. ;)

Re: Boats Snowed in!

kenny, MY pal, he was only stating his preference.
wasn't really derogatory about NYC (other than costs)
and you shouldn't have taken exception IMO.
I personally moved from LA to the stix ON PURPOSE,
so I can see his point of view as well as yours.
wooded land costs $500-$1,000 an acre around here.
it is just as much of an advantage as living in
the city when you think about it.
of course, I visit a few times a year and can truly
say... the women rock in NYC! LOL
on top of that it's like 60% single and they
outnumber men like 4-1... talk about an advantage!

perspective is reality,
M.Y.

Watch the personal attacks. We can disagree. We do not need to insult each other.

ahhh-if I insult myself, should I turn myself in????

Just kidding--is a running joke at work. If anyone feels offended we are supposed to run to HR and report the incident. Thus, if I offend myself-must I turn myself in to HR???

Mod 1,

No personal attack intended.

No insult intended either!

The negativity in his posts can be labeled as a personal attack or insult also!

But, enough said, I think I have made my point.

Peace.

Re: Boats Snowed in!

Ross, it is amazing how it is always greener on the other side! Been in climates where it was warm all year. Personally, I love the winter and the cold. As you say, there are so many fun things to do in the winter - sledding, skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, driving till you are stuck, then digging yourself out and doing it again, doing donuts on a deserted road, the list is endless. Yes, there is shoveling snow, ice, bundling up, etc., but winter is great fun. If I could only figure out how to enjoy the boat during winter (other than working on it). Oh, I guess I do that too, I hunt from it till the lake freezes over! Ain't winter grand!
