I carry Boat US boat and towing insurance. There are cheaper insurance companies, but I've heard only good things about their claims handling. That's when it counts, and they know boats.

At least you got a quote!! I had to apply online three times before I finally got a quote from them. If that is how they respond to new customer inquiries, I certainly don't have much faith in them to handle claims. I went with Progressive.

Re: boatus insurance

I have BoatUS for both of my boats. Not sure what issue brad614 had, but both boats were insured the day I called them. One is a 1976 and one is a 1988, both insured for liability and replacement value of what I paid for each. They took the information over the internet, called me the same day to confirm and emailed me with the address to forward pictures of the boat. Was about as painless as it gets, and one of the least expensive premiums by far. Every post I have read about their claims process had nothing but good things to say about them. I do recall reading a very negative claims issue from someone dealing with Progressive, take it for what it's worth.

Check United Marine too. I would be surprised if they couldn't give you a better quote with better coverage.

not enuf, what type of policy did you get a quote on? And ACV or a Yacht Policy. Huge difference.
In your state, you need to find your local agent that represents Westfield Insurance (google them, finding an agent is EASY), contact them, and tell them you want a quote on an American Select BTP-105 policy. Effectively a yacht policy at ACV pricing.

Full disclosure, I used to work for Westfield for 7 years. We parted ways, on BAD terms, in 2005. I kept my boat insured with them until I sold it in 2008. Does that tell you anything?

I got a quote on both. The first was half the cost of the second and progressive. The yatch coverage was still almost 49 less than progressive.

I will definitely look into west field. Do you know if they are licensed in ohio?

Considering they own an ENTIRE TOWN in Ohio, and were chartered in Ohio in 1848, yes, they are licensed in Ohio. They are the 4th or 5th largest insurer in Ohio after State Farm, Nationwide, AllState, and maybe Progressive.
