Well there are some that think he is satan and others who support his methods.

Most of the kids he coaches & their parents have a lot of respect for the man. I saw him on some outdoors show a while back, and he seemed like a great guy on there. Yeah, he gets results, but so did John Wooden. 2 completely different coaching philosophies. Lots of passion and I think sometimes it gets the best of him.

The man is a saint now compared to what he use to be. Give him a break, what he did was nothing, just a love tap. Stuff like that happen all the time, everywhere. If it was some other coach noone would even give it a second thought let alone make a big deal out of it.

I saw him do the slap this morning on tv. Volume was down as I only want to see the weather. I guess he died?:/

He needs to learn to keep his hands to himself.....
His freedom of speech (or passionate coaching)ends a quarter inch from that young man's chin....
He deserves an a$$ whoopin', or at least a fine & an apology......
Especially since he has shown a proclivity for this in the past......
He's probably a wife beater, too.....
Only a cowardly scumbag hits someone that they know won't hit them back.......
& any one of you who would allow a coach to hit on your kid under any circumstances is a jacka$$, IMHO.....JK

Wow Haut.....! that's a very unjust assumption don't you think? I agreed that a coach shouldn't hit a little kid playing peewee sport but this is college level, lots at stake. These are grown kids whom understand what they are supposed to do. It's a privilledge for them to be on the team so they better do what they're told. My kids live under my roof and they better do what I says or an arse whooping is in order. It's perfectly ok to knock some sense back into them and wake them up.

I think the distinction that has to be made is that he is a coach, not a parent. He is a like a teacher.......you have to admit its been awhile since they hit kids.

I like his style of coaching in that he demands respect and doesnt take crap from a bunch of college kids who wouldnt be in school if it wasnt for their basketball scholarships. Nothing makes me more mad than seeing an athlete at any level showboating and being a dumbass only to have the coach do nothing. I think Knight is capable of really teaching some life lessons in that aspect. Problem is that on a few occasions he crosses that boundry. A verbal bashing is all that is needed at this level. IMHO

I stand behind my opion that this incident is nothing, it shouldn't even have ever been discussed or thought about by anyone. The player himself, his parents, which was at the game, all said it was nothing, the media just sensationalize it up just like everything else. Our society needs to quit being so freaking soft, teachers can't do anything, coaches can't do anything, parents can't do anything. It's ok to discipline, if you don't think it ok to give some old school discipline then I got a PINK dress for you with your name on the back of it. It totally pathetic that this is even an issue. Move on please, how about that HOTD thread huh?? 11 pages, now that's something worth carrying on. 8)

I have met two men who have played for him over the years and of course the question comes up. They don't say much but to say if they wanted to talk to him today about a problem, he would make time to listen and if necessary make time to help. Both Graduated from Indiana. It has been several years.

I think he is a far more complicated and caring man than the media would portray. Check his graduation rates vs. any other major program. But his anticks are bizzare. He is one heck of a basketball coach.
