Your not going to find stainless at regular machine bolt prices. Other than that anywhere, for the the low grade stuff.

I would not think there is a huge price difference in stainless nuts and bolts without sacrificing quality. While places like Boaters World and West Marine have buying power, their prices may be align with the skyrocketing stainless prices...A ma and pop boat shop may have some old stock with old prices. I am assuming you need a lot or these are huge bolts because they are not that expensive...Just bought a pack of 10 stainless screws today for $4 at a place not known for their low prices.

You might try Fastenal. Google for hte outlet nearest you. Then there is Hamilton Marine and Jamestown Distributors. Small Parts Supply is a good source for up to 1/4 inch hardware.

Lowes home improvement centers carry them but only up to a certain size. Check the drawers as you walk in the main entrance.

Tons of places online, but if you want to shop locally, I've found ACE Hardware to have the best selection by far. Neat, organized and way more options than the orange or blue box. Price is about the same everywhere you go.

As it turns out, there are several grades of stainless and not all of them are as corrosion resistant as you would expect. 316 SST usually the best for marine applications, but 321 is really good also. If you get into any of the larger fasteners, that is to say over 3/8" or 1/2", galling can be a problem if they are overtightened so be sure to use a good quality anti-seize compound. I've bought a lot of fasteners (316SST and silicon bronze) from JamestownDistributers.com with good success. Regards - Woodnaut

I find http://www.mcmaster.com/ to be slightly cheaper than Jamestown. With a greater selection of types and sizes. But you cant usually order just one or two qty. of the same size.
But then if the grand total of shipping of one ends up costing the same as shipping five from another source.................

Try your local Fastener store, around here we have Coastal Fastener...they supply the building industry with nails for framing guns..air hose...nuts & bolts ect...look in your yellow pages under "Fasteners" The prices are 1/2 of the box stores,and its quality SS.
