I have been looking around for a RIb to use around my place on lake michigan, and came across a 2002 Boss 11' 2" dinghy. The companies that make these all fiberglass boats hype them up to be 10x better then a RIB, more stable, ore room, and all that, but I have not experience at all with them.
1)Does anyone have any experience with these?
2)What are the advantages?
3)Is $2400 a good price for a 2002 model with a 2002 mercury 25hp outboard? I have not found any others for sale, so I'm not sure

Thanks, james

Hi,

I looked at their site and there are lots of errors with regards to RIBs

"Rib inflatable boats are heavy for their size. As an example a popular 11' 10" rib inflatable weighs in empty at over 450 lbs.

Add a 30 hp motor a few options and you will approach 650 lbs. total weight."

Mine is over 12 foot and weighs 130lbs so totally incorrect.

When it comes to capacity I would bet that my RIB can hold way more than the BOSS.

You can step on my rib without it falling over not so sure about the BOSS

Too many reasons to list but most of the points made I disagree with.

Yugo touted itself as a great automobile too. There are no advantages to a a fiberglass tub unless you install one in your bathroom:)

Re: Boss Fiberglass Boats

Granted you can stick a hole in a RIB, but if you hit something hard with your fiberglass boat you can also get hole. Granted it is harder to hole fiberglass, but an inflatable can be repaired underway. Probably not very practical to do with fiberglass.

Further, depending on the size of the hole, you can just keep topping it up till you get to shore.

With my RIB I'm much more concerned about hitting a submerged object with the lower unit of the motor while at speed than holing a tube.
