Well we went to the boat show today looking to repower a boat we have, and fell in love with the 13 ft whaler instead.

The boat is a 2004 Boston Whaler 13 Sport, 40 hp Mercury 2 stroke, Bow cushions, comfort package, bow rail, galvanized trailer.

Total is $10,995

They include a 3 year warranty on the engine, a free gift (GPS, ect).

Now my question is, how fast will this boat go? I was told 30 but that seems low, I was thinking 35 mph.

Is there anything I should be concerned about?

I plan to use the boat along the Maine cost among the islands, its not rough usually.

How will this boat ride?

Thanks for any input,

Re: Boston Whaler 13 sport questions

heather,
A 13foot Boston Whaler is the best 13foot boat you can buy, I haven't been out on a new 130 but if its anything like any of the other whalers I've been in you'll love it. I currently own two of them,
a Sport-11 and a Montauk, you won't be dissapointed.

I think a 130 with a 40Merc should bring low 30's for top end, but am really not sure.

For more preformance info check out this wed site, its the best whaler site on the net,
www.continuouswave.com

Good luck.

Re: Boston Whaler 13 sport questions

November '03 I was at the local Boston Whaler dealership to pickup something for my 160 Dauntless when I spotted a 130 Sport with a big red bow setting in a parking spot in front of the store.

Of course I had to ask the salesman what the deal was on the little Whaler... It was the last '03 they had in stock. I wasn't lookng for another Whaler but it was marked down so I just had to check it out.

I thought I'd see just how much I could get them to come down (just for fun). You guessed it. An hour later I was driving home with a new 130 Sport in tow. :) The deal was just too good to pass up!!

I'll tell you Heather, the longer I have the 130 the more I love it!!!

Speed... I have the 25HP 4 stroke. I get about 27-28MPH @ WOT (GPS) with a normal load (2 batteries, bowmount trolling motor, 6gal fuel, 54qt cooler, fishing gear and a 180lbs. of yours truly).

Ride... Anything over a moderate chop is uncomfortable. I use mine for lake and skinny water Gulf fishing (Florida).

What should you be concerned about?... Neglecting your chores and spending waaaay to much time on the water :)

I would suggest, as with any boat purchase, you take a sea trial with your normal load and under condictions you'll be using your boat...

Good luck... :) :)
