I have a friend who works in a marina.
He offerd to sandblast the bottom of my '84 Grady White next year.

Any opinions on sandblasting?

Re: Bottom Paint Removal

Sure. Sandblasting does an excellent job of removing bottom paint - BUT - if not done properly can severely damage the gelcoat. It's very easy to be too agressive when sandblasting. Soda blasting is less abrasive and generally the best way to avoid problems.
That said, I know a few marinas that still do sandblasting, and they do a good job.
I guess it all depends on how much you trust your friend.

Why do you need/want a sand/soda blast ??

Got some pics ? ..

Sand or Soda wont matter if the applicator does not do it right..

Another thing..were is this being done ?? Containment is a big issue here. ( they can bag and tent this thing to look like there Containing it..but it just a Big balloon with outside air running the Blasting .. .. Gonna go somewhere other then the Bag ;) )

YD. ..

It's got 27 yrs of build up.......thought it would be a good idea to clean it up and inspect the bottom.

It would be done at his marina, I assume they know the issue on containment.
