thinking of putting a car jack under the rear stern, right under the transom, with a piece of wood for cushioning and jacking it up slowly to paint under the two bunks. What do you think?

let the nose of the trailer all the way down block the rear of the boat up real good.then raise the nose all the way up.put a floor jack under the tongue if you want a little more lift.works great for me

House, when you say block the rear of the boat up what exactly do you mean? I have a floor car jack and a bottle hydraulic jack and am contemplating the same thing, but trying to figure out how. One side at a time?

Brent I think housebroken is trying to tell you to crank the front end all the way down then put supports or blocks under the back corners of your boat. This way when you crank the front end back up the back of the boat should be resting not on the trailer but on your blocks.I never have done that but sounds like it might work.I have rollers on my trailer so I painted as much as I could than I used a come-a-long to pull my boat backwards on the trailer about 7 inches and painted the spots I couldnt before.

Guys,

Like housebroken said (which I haev done when I need to replace the bunks on my trailer.

Drop the nose of the trailer all the way to the ground, this raises the stern. Block the stern where it is. Then raise the bow, this will lift the nose, the stern will rest on the blocks, and come clear of the trailer. Be very careful here that your blocks do not push back, I built a cradle out of old 2x6. You can then block the bow and drop the trailer back down, the trailer will be clear.

Hope this helps.

Peace.

Ed.
