The engine is supposed to be a 1999 75hp 3 cyl Mariner.
But the cowl looks like a 1987-1990.

Serial number is OA751063

Can anyone tell me the year of the motor, I can't find anything when looking on the web. The only number that matches is a 60hp 3 cylinder engine.

However the boat is a light 16' bowrider open deck that runs 36mph on GPS with 2 people on board. I don't think it's a 60, it has to be a 75hp but what year. I paid more because I was told it was a 99 engine.

The good news is that OA###### is valid for a 3 cyl 2 stroke 75hp, the bad news is I cannot find the year for your number. All I can tell you is that it is post 1996.

Wow how sure is that ?
What was Mariner thinking with that engine cowl design. No wonder I can't find pictures, I guess they didn't sell all that many. It looks straight from the early 80s. Yet I found the same cover from 1989 to 1998 on pictures I found. I could not find a 1999 cover that looked like mine.

The listing I have shows 75 Hp OA series as starting at # OA197882 in 1986, the 1987 models start at OB167521. My guess and it is only a guess based on my listings is you have a 1986 model. I can send you a copy of the PDF document I have if you would like it. I got it ages ago from a post on here, but did not save the link. I covers all US-Europe built models from 1963 to 2005. Just PM me with your Email address and I will send it to you.

The cowl for the 1986 is slightly different than mine I think.
Also, it is a 4 cyl not a 3 cyl like mine. Unless I'm mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong.

I have oil injection, when did they start with these engines ?

They all start with a 0. Some sites list it and some don't.

What I don't understand is some sites with not list the "O" yet they have a number that matches completely and it is a 60 hp 3 cyl.
It starts with OA72 and up.

Also it's unlikely it's an 1986 for the reasons I stated above. What I don't know is what year exactly. It has to be between 1988-1999.

Ben, in reading your posts above, am I correct that the reason you think it can't be a 1986 is the cowling? If so, don't put a lot of stock in that because it's very easy to change cowlings, and it is fairly common with older engines. Is the cowling the only reason you think it's in the range you give above? (1988-1999)?

Another thought: Could it be that the engine was ever rebuilt? The reason I ask is that sometimes people miscommunicate (either purposefully, or ignorantly) the year of a rebuild for the year the engine is. For example, maybe the person who sold it to you said it was a 1999, when it was really an older engine that was rebuilt in 1999. Rebuilds are often an occasion for changing cowlings if the old one is beat up or damaged. Many people have no idea what year their engine is and often equate it with the year of the hull and/or the year they bought the boat. I have nothing against rebuilt engines - I've had one that truely was "like new" after a basic rebuild and I was extremely happy with it. I had another which was truely a "frankenstein monster" of various parts and specs and a real bear to work on after a complete "remanufacturing" job by a professional company.

Just a couple of thoughts as you sort this out.

Two different dealers couldn't tell me the year.
I called mercury marine and they said it's an 1989 ELPTO 75HP 3 cyl.
