Bow hop

What are some reasons for bow hopping?????<br />If I try to trim my outboard too much then the bow starts to really hop.<br />18' westcoaster bayrunner & 85hp yamaha outboard on a 6" offset trim & tilt plate. 13 1/8 x 16 SS prop @ 5,200 rpm

The most common cause of porpoising (bow hop) is too much trim out on the engine, Charles.<br /><br />Your boat is behaving normally.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

JB is correct, you do not have enough power to hold the bow up at higher trim.

The above statements are true. Also caused by too much weight aft.
