Bow Mount Trolling Motor - Tiller Handle Or Not?

Is there any benefit to using a tiller handle on a bow mount trolling motor? I like the idea of being able to navigate from the helm on our electric only lakes until I get to my favorite fishing hole. The only advantage I can see is that the tiller control handle makes the deck less cluttered with wires, foot pedals, etc.

Am I missing anything else?

Kevin

PAkev,
If you don't mind spending the extra money, check out the Minn Kota power drive with co-pilot. With the little remotes you can control your trolling motor from anywhere in the boat.
JD

if i was to install a new one on my boat i think i would go with a tiller handle because unless i have my seat raised up and sitting mine is a pain in the butt to use. i think if i had a recessed area for the foot control it wouldn't be too bad

Kevin, I had a foot control minn kota on my boat and it was so uncomfortable to use that I put it in shed and put a old transom mount on. I have been looking for a good bow mount with a tiller but have not found one yet, that I can afford. The foot control was the first that I had ever had and would not buy another.Maybe others find that standing on 1 leg in the bow of a boat is fun but not me.

For manuvering the shoreline while cast and retrieve bass fishing, there is no substitute for a foot mounted model. That's the reason most bassers use the bicycle seat up front. It makes controling with one foot a breeze. You get used to it in no time. Trying to operate it with no seat is indeed tiring.

Re: Bow Mount Trolling Motor - Tiller Handle Or Not?

This is mostly a personal preference thing. I've used ALL of the different types of controls. They all work fine. My personal preference is having a tiller trolling motor mounted on the bow with it being on the side that my cranking hand is on for the reel. That way if I have to give the motor a shot, I have control over the rod and spool for a few seonds while my other hand is on the tiller with out having to cross my arms. The new Minnkota 3X bow mount tiller is awsome. Tiller moves 30 degrees and the motor moves 180 degrees.....

Thanks for the input

Does anyone know if indeed the co pilot could be added to the Minn Kota Riptide 3X bow mount with tiller controls? It seems like this would be a practical alternative.

Kevin
