Bow Stand

Hello - <br /><br />Thanks for all of the help recently. I purchased my boat, 2002 Wellcraft 190, on Saturday. I had it on the water for 5 hours and it ran perfect the whole time. <br /><br />The boat barely fits in my garage, but it fits. I noticed on the front of the trailer, there is a decal with a large X on it. It says to "Place back of base on mark" and "Place bowstand on decal." Right now, the bowstand is a good 2-3 inches behind the X. <br /><br />So - should I indeed move the bow stand forward (once the boat is off)? If this is how the trailer is designed, then great - I'll gain a much needed 8" or so in my garage. <br /><br />I have pictures, but can't seem to post them.

you can probably move it with the boat on the trailer, then just winch the boat forward. this will increase your tongue weight a good bit.

The boat weighs 2600 lbs. I have a Titan with the big tow, so I don't think the increased tongue weight will be a big deal. The truck handled her just fine over the weekend, even with me backing it up...<br /><br />So you don't think I need to take the boat off before adjusting?

Where is the stern in relationship to the trailer? If moving the winch tower forward would take the stern off its supports, then I wouldn't do it.

It's a 4-bunk trailer. The stern simply rests on the bunks. Right now, the hull overhangs the end of the bunk on the rear by 3 inches.

Then you need to move it forward! Transom needs the support. It'll make a surprising difference in tongue weight - general rule - tongue-heavy trailer you can feel it kind of bouncing the truck - tongue-light is almost impossible to control the sway. That's no substitute for getting the actual weights - just an observation. If the ride gets rough...weigh it...and move the axle(s) if you have to.<br /><br />Long as everything's in proper working order winching it forward is no problem.<br /><br />Don't forget to make sure your transducer, speedometer sender, anything else hanging on the transom will clear the bunks.<br /><br />Posting pictures - join an image-hosting site (I use photobucket.com) and upload your photos - hit the "Full Reply Form" button below, click on "Image", and paste your pic's url into the dialogue box.

Ok, thanks. It sounds like I should definitely move the stand forward. Since the winch sits on the stand, is it safe to attempt with the boat on the trailer? I'm new to this, so sorry if that's a dumb questions. <br /><br />Here's a picture of the decal.<br /> <br />

No problem. Move the stand and winch it up. If you've got it outside, wet the bunks down real good and it will slide easier....
