I am a bowler, me and my dad bowl in tournaments all the time. Today the televised ABC Bowling Tournament was here in Milwaukee and I would've gone to see it, if not for the fact that I had to work. I got home and watched the end with my dad, during which one of the Bowlers said something that sort of ticked me off. I dont know if anyone here watches bowling, but after throwing a decent ball that stuck on his hand a bit he said "phew, I got lucky there, threw that like a league bowler." Now why would he say that given.......
1. He;s in Milwaukee were more people bowl than anywhere else.
2. The majority of people watching are league bowlers.
3. He's bowling against a typical fan favorite.

Now I'm sure I am overreacting a bit, but to me the comment was condescending. The jerk won anyways but I wish he wouldn't have

Re: Bowling

So he bowls profesionaly,

I assume he started as a league bowler, Which really does show his arrogance/ignorance.
Does he realise how much damage that one stupid comment has potentialy done?

It really does point out that no matter sport people are in, they need to be very carefull of what they say.

I think we've all uttered words we wish we hadn't ... words that may have made us sound more insensitive than we really are.

Not knowing the Pro in question, I'd suggest chalking it up to "Brain Fart" and laughing it off.

Re: Bowling

I think people just forget their roots. Im in the IT industry and network guys are the worst. The higher up you go the more arrogant and condescending they get to others in the industry they think are below them. Most are like me, they started at some scut job and worked their tails off to get certifications and better jobs. Ive been with the same company 25 years and started as a copier repair tech and worked my way up and now run the corporate network. Im still friends with all the field techs too, we always use first names and I would never give them crap like some of the other administrators do. I will always remember my roots (but I do harass them when they screw up their laptops and I have to fix them, lol!)

I don't know him either........and I would normally I would chalk it up as a "brain fart", but he was showboating the entire match. That lead me to believe he is arrogant and ignorant; not just a victim of a simple slip of the tongue. For example after a strike he turned around and as he walked back (and I believe it was in ear shot of his competitor) and said " nope, ya just can't beat that now can you." This was among other things. A lot of it has to do with with the sport in general. It has fallen victim to the pointless showboating as many sports have.........i have begun to accept that in my mind. But the comment about league bowlers is still completey uncalled for. Especially when you KNOW you are wearing a mic, and you KNOW the target audience is primarily league bowlers.

Blade is right....people just forget where they came from. The only difference between the very best league bowlers and pro bowlers is expirience and equipment.

Lark, I agree, there could be potential damage from that statement.

Re: Bowling

I don't think he meant it in a bad way..Ever watch beginners..They tend to loft the ball ten feet over the foul line..Once they learn to bend at the knees the loft goes to..

I bowl in some regionals still and still hold my PBA card..Now only hit a couple of the senior tours a year..Never made the top five but have been close..

Alot of folks dont know it but a qualifying round is usually about 48 to 54 games..The thumb tends to swell alot and unless your careful the hurt may follow. In the ole days i use to cut a hole in a potato and stick my thumb inside..It kept the swelling down. those who laughed usually were the ones who walked down the lane still holding the ball at some time..

At 54 I still carry a 210 plus average. Got a few 300 and 800 rings in my time..alot of crankers out there now. In the old days crankers did not exist..Now with the resin and synthectic lanes its a young arms game...Curious does you or your dad have your card..I think you have to carry a 200 plus now for two years to be eligible

You even have to go to the school now..Man times sure have changed since the days when pins were set by guys in the back..lol
