Re: Bowrider to Catalina?

Been to Catalina many times in a bow rider with no problems. But......

It can get very nasty in the afternoon. In addition to the condition of your boat, right gear etc...the most important factor is skill & experience. The fact that you're even asking is a good indication that you should not attempt the crossing. Until you get some crossings under you, you should go with other boats, an experienced captain in your boat, only in good weather, only early morning (both directions). If it kicks up just a little bit, it can get very dangerous and will probably not be fun for you or your passengers. Not to mention your fuel bill.

Bring an experienced captain with you. If he says nope, then there's your answer.

There is more to than just changing your breaker to a 90A rating. Your original breaker's rating is what should work with your electrical system's capacity (wiring loading, appliances and equipment, boat systems, etc) you want that breaker to blow if current ( amps) loads exceeds your wiring capacities or you risk having an electrically-induced fire in your boat.

Thank you sir, I do appreciate the info. I looked into adding scupper drain + valve in the past for easier cleaning/ability to hose-down without going through the bilge, will get that one taken care of. Think i'm going to work on reinforced fiberglass bow cover to go under the sunbrella instead of the fiberglass bow for support. I also did a bunch of electrical work, sealing all the connectors with marine shrinkwrap and spraying over with neoprene with all the connectors. The battery is actually pretty high in the rear of the boat and I added a 90amp breaker to make sure it won't short. For scupper valves, looks like the pingpong ball type are best at keeping backflow from coming in, will have to do more research about placement but next to bilge fitting looks like a common place for them

Flow-Max

Thank you again for the advice, greatly appreciated!
