Hi What66,
The bronze prop will be fine for a show motor, but for go, stick with aluminum. Those bronze wheels are very hard on the gears and clutch dog. They weigh considerably more than the aluminum prop and for most applications there is little, if any, performance difference. If you use the boat a lot, get an aluminum prop for everyday use and keep the bronze prop (all shined up of course) for show use or on the mantle. You're running 50-year old parts in that motor and they're getting harder and more expensive to find - if you can find them at all....
- Scott

If the prop has sliped, any prop shop should be able to fix it! I have the bronze prop on my 57 35hp don't know how long its been on it as it was on when I got the boat. I have ran it for 3 years. There must have been something more than show for them. (I fish where the stups, logs and rocks are)

I took my old aluinimun prop to the prop shop
he said the bushing was unavailble.
and my old bushing didn't just slip when I took the propeller off I was able to take the bushing out by hand.and the ruber was sepret from the brass shaft.

sorry to here that, I found a couple of props at a flee market for my 50hp (58 rude) for $12.00 each. Maybe you could get lucky and find one at a swap somewhere. I don't know if he will have it but try Eric at boats444@aol.com (small place here in Tulsa) or http://www.twincityoutboard.com/ (bigger place)

Listen to chinewalker. The clutch dogs in these motors were weak. You can get a new aluminum speed prop for around 80 bucks.Replacement of your dog will be three times that, and they are a little tricky to find. The bronze looks good though, they were originally intended for salt water run engines,a lot of them are pitched to run heavy cabin cruisers, that was all the motor available then.Put this on a runabout and it will grind and you will go 5 mph.I know.

I think it is the same pitch and size of the aluniman prop.
