Hi, is contact cement or adhesive what I want to use when replacing the o ring seals at shift, remote oil, and exhaust connections on the outdrive for re assembly. Not sure if there is a difference between 3m adhesive and a jar of dap contact cement other than the name. I have 3m spray 90 but think its better to brush the dap in the groove then pushing o ring into place. Any advise?
thanks jim

my mercruiser stern drive service manual #11 only notes the shift cable and water passage o rings to be coated with 3m sealant, Im assuming the o ring that serves the remote gear oil reservoir probe would also need sealant. When I removed the drive the o ring that seals said gear oil probe didnt have any existing sealant. Do you have any info on this?
thanks jim

For the most part no adhesive is needed for any of the O-rings to create a good seal. The adhesive is only used to help keep the ring in place during install. If the ring moved it could pinch it and cause a leak

ok, thanks for clarification, I was just interpreting the manual to apply to both sides which I thought would be strange.
