Bravo one prop issue

After doing some work on my lower drive, I went to put the prop on and it is hitting the carrier nut around the perimiter. When I pulled the old nut, I noticed it was worn down, but wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that way. After more inspection, it was rubbing that way from the previous owner. The prop that is on it says Mach Stern Driver 14x16 4 blade stainless. I dug out the backup prop and it's an aluminum 3 blade Michigan Wheel 14x19. I measured them and the back outer ring is about 1/4" deeper into the drive on the SS one. Is this prop not built for the Bravo one drive, or is there a spacer that I need that is thicker? Can I use a washer between the thrust washer and the prop to move it back just a tad?

Re: Bravo one prop issue

The thrust washer needs to "FIT" the prop on one side and fit the lower unit on the other. You must have the wrong one or the hub has sliped a bit. put the thrust washer into the prop and notice that it conforms to the shap of the front of the prop. As the prop tries to work forward the washer must hold both the hub and the prop equally. If you add a washer you could mess up this process. Some pictures would help.

I looked at the aluminum prop, and see what you are saying. The SS prop isn't built the same. It has a small sleeve inside and is flush with the prop itself, and the washer is flush against both. On the trailing end of the prop, the notched washer is part of the sleeve as well from what I can see because it doesn't come out of the prop. It also is pretty much flush, indicating the prop hasn't moved any. Do they make different thickness thrust washers?

Basically, the SS prop is rubbing on the spanner nut in the drive because it is going on the shaft too far. The spanner nut I took off the drive had been ground down about 1/8" and since I put a new spanner nut on, now the prop is hitting it. The backspacing on the SS prop is deeper set than the aluminum one I have as a backup.
