Hey everyone,
I just bought my third boat this last weekend. A 1998 crownline cr268 with a merc 8.1 and bravo three dual prop drive. Before I bought the boat I did take it out and the seller told me it does take a while to get up on plane. We never could get it up on plane. Just got it home last night and of course the same thing. I am able to "rev" the motor in neutral and it sound great but when I am out on the water my WOT is only 2500. I moved people up to the bow and got to 2750 and close to plane. The tilt trim does not raise or lower the drive. I have filled the resivoir with the recommended oil and it hold until I engage the motor and it all leaks out. My question is this, I obviously have a leak which I have been unable to find (have not looked that hard) . But since there is not "hydraulic fluid" when I try to plane out it seems like the drive is raising itself keeping it from planing. Are my assumptions correct and if so, what would be the best way to find the leak?
