Re: Breaking news - Steve Irwin killed by a stingray

[colour=blue]He caught his first Brown Snake (extremely venomous) at age 4, he and his father supplied snakes for anti-venom research.

For reasons unknown (to me), reptiles were in his blood at a very early age. What he did was not an act, he was genuinely a reptilian advocate and often pushed the envelope in the name of research and education.

Reports are filtering through that he removed the stingray barb himself before passing out.

Steve Irwin was, among other things, an entertainer. Like so many other entertainers, he had to sensationalize his acts, that is why he was on the edge and did so many stupid things in his shows.

But more so he was a great man, a great, passionate evironmentalist. He was so much more than words could say. This world is poorer without him.

I know my family will miss his shows. My kids loved his shows and had a greater respect for nature because of them.

My daughter is 9, same as his daughter. I couldn't imagine leaving my family at this stage in my kids lives. At this point I sooooo look forward to walking my daughter down the aisle, and those thoughts stay in my mind everyday.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, especially his children.

What a 'freakish' thing to happen after all his stunts... he'll be sadly missed.

The whole "baby" thing, I dont give a rip if you are a frickin expert, NO ONE is immune from a simple slip and fall. One slip, = dead baby.
I guess he was entertaining, and a great champion for wildlife, but It serves him right. Its like the people who keep lions and tigers and critters that are not meant to be kept by humans. When the lion attacks them, they say " I just dont know why it attacked me?" I know why it attacked you, BECAUSE ITS A LION!
And one thing I dont understand is why people get so wound up over movie and TV stars dieing. You didnt know them, and why do they get such treatment? Just because they are on TV, does that somehow make them special?

Ummm, if that was to me,well,no, Im not angry, I just dont understand everyones love for famous people. Hes on TV. SO? And that picture you have shows just how stupid he was, holding his son and feeding an aligator.
Hmmmmm, lets see. I bet that all of you that think that it was a good idea for him to hold his son next to that gator, thought that it was HORRIBLE for Michael Jackson to hold his son out over the balcony of that hotel room, didnt you?
Amen or oh me?

He admited he was wrong, what else can he do? The man did stupid stuff for sure, but he was very knowlegeable in doing so. I'm sure he didn't just grab a snake and not know how to hold it properly.

His wife was on the show with him half the time, its not like the family dissapproved of his activities. He has taught a lot of kids and adults alike a lot of nature. He has done a lot to preserve what wildlife he can.

CPJ you keep talking about special treatment..............what special treatment?? I don't see parades and whatnot for him. People are discussing it and it is on the TV, because he was a TV personality. Plain and simple. If Joe Shmoe down the road has a heart attack, and if you mentioned his name and millions instantly knew who you were talking about, he'd be on tv too when he dies.

Certinaly i lack the nature of this man, he spent years of his life trying to build a consenous on nature and life, and yes he did use dramatic's it is the only thing that capture's human imagination.

It would be far to easy for me to flame a few indidivuals making negative comment's here.

To the nay sayer's i ask you this............. What have you given, the all of you combined, id dare say you couldnt even pay for the light bulb's in the men's room,

Little people in today's world have such a loud and vocal message, yet they do nothing for mankind, Let the First one speak of his contribution's to humanity and it's bettermeant for mankind......................... And then judge this Man.

Pony, maybe special treament isnt the correct term. Its all the pomp and circumstance of it all. I just dont get how everyone gets such a woody for the TV celebs. And not just Steve Irwin, but any famous person. I just dont get it.

Tail gunner,
I actually changed the light bulbs in the mens room before. That is quite a contribution if you ask me. It keeps men from whizzing on their shoes.
I would venture to guess that the little people that go unnoticed contribute more to mankind than a few celebs do. You just here more about the big names.

If you read my above post, I said that he was a great champion for wildlife and he was entertaining. I dont care if he cured cancer, when he held his son next that croc, he was a moron.

But I suppose that I have no right to speak, since I havent done anything to make the world a better place.

While the naysayers feel bigger in their own minds for what they say the reality is that most of us feel a diminished respect for those cheapshot artists.

No question that we do oversensationalize celebrities. When we lose a soldier in Iraq serving our country we do not show this much fanfare. In fact we would be challenged to name one of the last 100 killed there. This time I must ride with cpj and flathead, and you all know this does not happen a lot.

Me thinks sorry for the loss to his family and our entertainment and life goes own. I did watch his shows on occassion. Glad he did good stuff.
