The short version is that as long as he pays $30,000 and stays out of trouble, the offense will be dropped after 18 months and the feds are done investigating him.

His lawyer has released a statement with the details.

Lawyers Statement

All part of the same incident. The plea agreement is for the charge of Doctor Shopping. If he fulfills his obligation under the agreement, everything else will be dropped.

Limbaugh was arrested Friday on prescription drug
charges, law enforcement officials said.

The warrant alleges that sometime between February and August 2003, Limbaugh withheld information from a medical practitioner from whom he sought to obtain a controlled substance or a prescription for a controlled substance.

Prosecutors began investigating Limbaugh in 2003 after the National Enquirer reported his housekeeper's allegations that he had abused OxyContin and other painkillers. He soon took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter a rehabilitation program and acknowledged he had become addicted to pain medication. He blamed it on severe back pain.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/04/28/linbaugh.arrest.ap/index.html

Before his own problems became public, Limbaugh had decried drug use and abuse and mocked President Clinton for saying he had not inhaled when he tried marijuana. He often made the case that drug crimes deserve punishment.

"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up," Limbaugh said on his short-lived television show on October 5, 1995.
I wonder who will sub for him now?

Re: Breaking news...

just another fine examble of the best legal system money can buy.
if ya got money it works if not ya go to jail.
there is a huge legal difference between a 30K FINE and a 30K COST OF COURT.
another examble of how a wealthy chicken hawk can spit on the US legal system and walk away untouched for a few sheckles.
wonder what would happen if one of us average joe Iboaters that did not have a spare 30K floating about would be if arrested and the records showed we had been dr shopping for pain killers?
Rush just showed the world how our US system of law and courts is for sale to the higest bidder.
while justice may be blind if you put enough coins in her cup she can be swayed.
whatever respect I may have had for this blowhard just evaporated.

Re: Breaking news...

Some folk do have a legit reason for pain killers. Some who do use them use other drugs to enhance/get back the uphoria.

Why does Rush need them? JFK used them for a reason, but he didn't need to go shopping for them. He had his doctors. I'd like to see the court transcripts.

Z
I agree 100%, however its up to the patient to keep the doki tari informed and the doki tari to keep an eye on the perscriptions written. thats why the federal laws governing narcatics and certain other drugs was written.
thats also why its illegal to go to 7 different doki tari's and get 7 perscriptions for the same stuff during the same time period.
when my uncle was dying he had a perscription for injectable morphine and another pain killer, once the cancer progressed they finnaly gave him an auto-injector. but even the auto injector had a timer. why i dont have a clue. one dok tari said it was to prevent him from becoming addicted to morphine :)
all i could do was look at ole doky and say"heres your sign".

Re: Breaking news...

I know very little about this case. In all, I bet very few know much about this case. Sure it's in the news and because of the exposure and notariety of rush everyone is talking about it. However, this is not the case of a man turning to drugs for the he11 of it. Lets face it, he had several operations and at some point completely lost his hearing. He now hears through implants and at a very reduced frequency range. While some might consider it a crime in itself, if it wansn't for his money and fame he would most likely be deaf. Yes, I think he is a pompous ***,but I just can't consider him a junkie or out of control because of what he has/is going through.Yes, I think this is a political whitch-hunt and nothing more. I would have afforded the same rights to Peter Jennings, if word came out that he creatively obtained medication for his comfort durring his medical ordeal. Same thing for Christopher Reaves.

Re: Breaking news...

Everyone here knows I am a Rush fan. I even subcribe to "24/7", (his archive website).
So here is the REAL story. The following press release is not from CNN, or Ted Coppel. It is from his attourney, Roy Black. The news picked-up and ran with on the drive-by media outlets are very misleading (where is the suprise there?)
They are calling it "arrested again", when this is actually the culmination of the SAME CASE!
Pitifull attempts!
Anyhow, here is the REAL story:

Settlement Agreement Ends State Investigation of Rush Limbaugh

April 28, 2006

Palm Beach, FL – April 28, 2006 – In response to media and other inquiries, Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, released the following statement today concerning a settlement agreement with the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office to end the investigation of Mr. Limbaugh:

"I am pleased to announce that the State Attorney's Office and Mr. Limbaugh have reached an agreement whereby a single count charge of doctor shopping filed today by the State Attorney will be dismissed in 18 months. As a primary condition of the dismissal, Mr. Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years. This is the same doctor under whose care Mr. Limbaugh has remained free of his addiction without relapse.

"Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position. Accordingly, we filed today with the Court a plea of 'Not Guilty' to the charge filed by the State.

"As part of this agreement, Mr. Limbaugh also has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation. The agreement also provides that he must refrain from violating the law during this 18 months, must pay $30 per month for the cost of "supervision" and comply with other similar provisions of the agreement.
"Mr. Limbaugh had intended to remain in treatment. Thus, we believe the outcome for him personally will be much as if he had fought the charge and won."

The actions taken today are as follows:

• The State Attorney has filed a single charge of doctor shopping with the Court. The charge is being held in abeyance under the terms of an agreement between the State and Mr. Limbaugh.

• Mr. Limbaugh has filed a plea of "Not Guilty" with the Court.

The formal agreement between Mr. Limbaugh and the State Attorney will be filed with the Court on Monday. The terms of the agreement are substantively as follows:

• Mr. Limbaugh will continue in treatment with the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years.

• After Mr. Limbaugh completes an additional 18 months of treatment, the State Attorney has agreed to drop the charge.

• Mr. Limbaugh has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation.

Re: Breaking news...

Now my opinion....well you knew it was comming, right?

I think drug addiction is next to impossible to overcome. Not that it can't be done -- I am living proof of that.
I was addicted to speed 36years ago. I was addicted to cigarettes until Jan 1,2000.

Rush Limbaugh ,like any other human being wired on drugs, has an uphill fight that is seldom overcome.
But unlike me, his addiction does not stem from recreational drug usage. It stems from a pre-existing medical condition....I.E.:chronic pain.
For just one example, Anyone who has lived with a herniated disc can relate to chronic pain, and the "miracle" pain releif available. "Oh, it still hurts like hell, but who cares?"...Right?

All that to say this: I do not think Rush Limbaugh automatically has what it will take to get his addiction behind him. I do not know the man, but i do know the power of addiction.
