Bringing home the new boat today (hopefully)

Ok we worked out a very mutually acceptable deal and pending water test today at about 4 we will be bringing home our new (to us) 1996 Mariah Shebah 180 SE.

Only down sides are minor, needs a new stereo (kinda like that though since I can do it my way and not just live with a good stereo already in place) also needs a depth finder (no biggy) and lastly it's the volvo penta 4.3 instead of the mercruiser. I don't dislike volvo motors, just prefer the cost of parts for the mercruiser!

I am very excited. I have a ton of pics to post but having issues with photobucket - :facepalm:

The wife and I saw it, kept looking for like 10 minutes at other boats but were magnetically drawn back to this boat. I emailed him 15 minutes after it was listed!

That is a pretty boat with an excellent motor and outdrive set up. I am sure you will be very happy being a VP owner

Best of luck with that. Be sure to service your trailer bearings which are often neglected.

Like the boat but dislike the all red hull. Single color hull is a color option on many boats but there are reasons you see so many white hulls and especially white interior glass.

And that reason is? (I mean other than people not liking to be outside the box too much, liking to follow the crowd and fall in line.) I mean I am sure it's a bit more difficult to take care of, might be a tad hotter on a hot sunny day but what else? I mean is there a structural reason? Is there a functionality reason?

This red boat is in better shape inside and out than all the white ones I looked at, they are mostly oxidized and cloudy by the time they are 12 years old. I am confused....

Red soaks up heat and will be hot to the touch, that's all i can think of as a drawback.

Red will fade much quicker than any other color. Luckily mine has been stored indoors since brand new in 2000 and the finish is excellent. Other than that that I don't see the drawback of a one color boat. It's different than most every other boat on the lake and it stands out. When I tell somebody about where I'm anchored they will find me even if there are a 100 other boats around. Most likely I will be the only all red one. An all yellow one would be my 2nd choice.

Interior heat is one reason and if you trailer it another is the colored hull shows all the dings and damage that occur from just trailering and of course from boating. In a perfect world we'd all love to have colored hulls but the practicality is the issue. The worst though is the black and dark blue hulls. So many times I think how glad I am I didn't get a colored hull and I'm only in northern MN far from the heat of even what Iowa gets in a usual year. I know several people who got the colored hull and have the complaints above regreting they checked the box. Red is bad but black is really bad.

Luckily she will be stored in the caves here in KC (subtropolis) so year round she will be cozy in 50 degree temps with controlled humidity and gated security. Only time she'll be in the sun is when we are on her having a blast. I imagine it should look good for another 10 years, then, who knows maybe I repaint her.

All I know is this boat speaks to me and looks darn sexy and the red and gold just screams HOT ROD. So I like it.

Well sounds like you found just the right boat to look sexy on. You're going to have to have a sexy tow rig to match. the sexiness.

When I saw my boat the first time I wanted it, but it was heavier than I was capable of towing. So I looked at several other lighter weight boats, but to me the white boats just didn't catch my eye and I could not quit thinking about the red boat. So I decided to sell my Volvo and buy whatever I could get with the money from the Volvo to buy something that could tow the boat. And I bought the boat after a test drive. I sold the 98 Volvo for $3800 and bought a 98 Envoy for $3500 and it towed Lil Red just fine. I have since sold the Envoy and bought an 03 4Runner V8 which tows it much better.

Once I saw an all red boat I had to have it. Must be my bad eyesight becasue I see very few dings and damage on my boat. And there is not a single time I go out that somebody doesn't say "Wow nice boat".

I steered clear of single color hulls. I was hoping you'd pipe back in. Now you have a red hull and I have a white and blue hull and I get the towing chips on the blue stripe I've been fighting for years. If I towed a single color boat, a Rock Tamer System would be my first purchase. I picked one up a couple seasons ago finally and it helps but doesn't stop them (I've towed with three different SUV's) but still get debris from opposite way passing vehicles.
Only since you mentioned it, I've never even one time brought my boat to a ramp without at least one person coming up to me to talk about it and that is with a white bottom hull. It's like clock work and can set my watch by it. Is it the hull or is it that your Crownline is just a nice all around boat?

Yes, yes it does.

I am someone who probably couldn't/wouldn't own an all red boat myself for a variety of boring, practical reasons that really don't amount to much, but it's like the sport car of the boat world - that doesn't keep me from drooling all over yours.

When a Corvette passes me in my 8-passenger vehicle I might think "doesn't suit my lifestyle" but I'm still going to think "Da#$ hot car!"

It's gorgeous. You are going to love it and get TONS of compliments on it. Enjoy!

Is it the hull or is it that your Crownline is just a nice all around boat?

I really think it's the Red that catches their eye and then they see it's a Crownline in excellent condition and it shines. But then again if everybody had a red boat it would be boring.

A couple years back I think it was my Boating mag did an article on exactly this topic. I've got to go find that.
