First mistake: I took a pretty good chunk out of the flywheel while i was pulling it. Its about a 1/2" x 1 1/2". It is right off the upper lip. Not downin the teeth where the starter engages. After reading this post:

I think i am going to have the same problem, I have a buddy that has welded some cast/pot aluminum before and he said he could probably get to it later this week. So i am at least going to try to weld this one back together.

I have a 1967 9.5 Johnson MQ 13 B. the part number for the flywheel is 580465. I found this one on ebay: its from a '68 and the part number is 580464. will this flywheel properly work on my motor?

Thank yall in advance. I am going to try to load a picture. But am really having trouble.

That (580465) will work, and the price is more than reasonable.

Sooooo . Did you buy it? That was a very fair price. You should get yourself a proper puller and avoid (hopefully) any future problems. Best of luck. Rick.

I bought it yesterday evening and it is in the mail today. So hopefully it will be here by the weekend. The seller said that there was one small dent in one of the teeth. But I was told that performance would not be affected.
And as far as a new puller goes, You are correct Rick. I should have already done that but us kids are more on doin and less on thinking things through. The gear puller I have probably would have worked just fine but I was doing several things wrong with it. Its turned in to a $40 learning experience.

You need to get a harmonic balancer puller, some Gr 8 bolts and Gr8 washers for the next time.

Unfortunately for us all "Experience is the best teacher". You may want to take a small file to that gear tooth. All in all, $40.00 is a cheap lesson compared to some. Rick.
