My '88 Sea Ray Seville I/O has a arm poking down into the water at the bottom of the hull for a speed sensor. The cable to it pulled out this past weekend. Will plugging it back in and sealing it all up get it going again? Or do i need to purchase a replacement and rewire it?

I haven't been able to get at it this week to figure it out so if anybody can give me a head start on how it works and how to fix it I would appreciate it...

Thanks
Jim

Re: Broken Speedometer Sensor

If it's the same type as mine it works by air pressure. The arm poking down into the water is called a "pitot tube". If the pressure tube that attaches to it is intact, you should be able to just reconnect it and be back in business. If it still doesn't work check to see if the hole in the pitot is blocked. Use a toothpick or something to unblock if it is. If it still doesn't work after that, replace the pressure tube that runs from the pitot to the speedo, the slightest nick in the tube will cause it not to work.
