Broken Swivel Bracket ~ Trailer disaster!

Hi,
I have a 1982 Evinrude 9.9hp. Model E10RCNS. The left bush on the steering swivel bracket has cracked and broken away in two small pieces, enabling the tilt bolt, and left clamp assembly to swing away from the body. Is it possible to weld this or am I just dreaming. If not - does buying a new bracket (serial no 0325166) - mean that I have to do a lot of dismantling? I am an engine novice - so it may be a bit challenging.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Re: Broken Swivel Bracket ~ Trailer disaster!

If a transom clamp is broken yes you will need to pull it apart and change out the clamp, they are available as individual parts from BRP or used on fleabay. You remove the big through bolt and a couple of screws and the bracket will be apart.

If it's the swivel bracket the entire motor has to come apart to change out the bracket, not nearly as easy a job but it's not rocket science on these motors, just time to remove everything and put it back together with a standard set of tools.

You need to determine which part is broken, maybe post a pic.

And when she is fixed, get and use a "transom saver", which saves a lot more than transoms. :)
